Pan covers

I'm no good with the picture thing, but I used to use baggies, cheap but effective in keeping junk from getting under the pan.take care, daveyboy

Try the poly fill fiber, the stuffing for pillows and you wont be sorry. I have used it for five yrs and it works great.

I use fiberglass screen the kind you use to replace a screen in a screen door i cut a notch out to go around the trigger and big enough to put the 4 corners under the jaws to hold it down...a buddy of mine used unscented toilet paper for his covers and he caught lots of foxes and a cat or two....trapperdoc

I never thought of cupcake wrappers. I may have to try that.
Livetrap: You place the pan cover on the pan after you bed the trap. Then you sift your dirt over the trap. The pan cover prevents dirt and other debris from getting under the pan and causing any firing problems.

wax paper, plastic wrap, cut screens into small pieces(like the ones you use in windows). Or a trappers cap for when your setting them.

p.s. make sure it's ok to cut up screens before you start cutting them up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A really good set up is a steel screen pan cover it goes under both jaws when set. The pan tension should be 3lbs for fox and coyote. It usually misses skunks and rabbits.T.20

Screen. Like Tactical 20 said, cut to fit under both jaws. I take my screen and and push it over the pan notch so the screen is held down by both jaws.
Tactical 20, All I can find is aluminum screen, can you still get steel screen?

I put a wad of poley fill under my trap pan.i quit using pan covers years ago.If your trap is modified properly you should have no problem.I adjust my pan pressure to 2 lbs.I would like to add,i use buckwheat hauls and sift a light covering of dirt over that.

Guys, later in the year,i will show pictures from start to finish on making a set that will work from warm weather to sub zero temps.I will also show you how to do this without the use of pan covers.I will take you through, step by step and show you how to set a trap solid without any movement and no need for packing around the jaws.I will also show you what to use and how to use it.I never use salt[its not needed]or any kind of anti freeze.I want to help you newer trappers to put fur on the stretures,so watch for my post, later in the year.

and you leave the cover on, under all that dirt. won't a coyote smell it?

I don't quite understand your question, and was it directed toward me for an answere?

The steel pan cover screen can be purchased from O'Gorman out of MT. Yes you leave the pan cover under the dirt, it is treated the same as a trap. I cover mine with atleast a 1/2" of dirt.T.20

looking forward to this

What are you targeting? If you are after cats then I wouldn't use a cover at all. The exposed set is probably the best there is for cats. Otherwise as Trapperchris said coffee filters work great.

I use coffee filters as well, i just turn the filter upside down put trap over top of frame under pan and it teepees enough to keep out the dirt. I don't even treat them. by early enough in the year open bag let open air in my shed, put in small tin close it up and i'm good to go.
