I bought a Foxpro 416B a little over a month ago. It has 16 sounds, some of which don't seem to match the territory or critters in my area, so I am going to get it reprogrammed with 16 useful Michigan sounds. Listed below is what it has now. I sure would appreciate any input from hunters near this part of the country as to which ones I should get rid of, and which sounds I should buy. My main target is coyotes, but I would like the capability to call bobcats and crows as well. I think I could use some other types of howls or barks, and another deer sound.

0. Coyote Locator (like it)
1. Coyote Female Inv
2. Interrog Howl
3. Coyote Pup Distress #2 (hasn't helped yet?)
4. Fray Fox Pup #2 (pitch it?)
5. Red Fox Pup (pitch it?)
6. Bobcat in Heat
7. Jackrabbit Dist
8. Rabbit Dist #1
9. Rodent Distress (pitch it?)
10.Prairie Dog Dist (pitch it?)
11.Squirrel Distress (pitch it?)
12.Lucky Bird (pitch it?)
13.Screamin Jay (pitch it?)
14.Fawn Distress (My fav.. I want another like it)
15.Crow Fight

I'm not from your neck of the woods, but I'd save every last one of those sounds to your computer before you add new ones. It doesn't hurt to have them available.

Coyote Pup Distress #2 - I like that sound as use it.

Gray Fox Pup #2 - I like this one too.

Bobcat in Heat - I have it, but haven't used it. Folks report success with it.

Lucky Bird - A favorite sound of many. Keep it and use it.

Screamin Jay (pitch it?) - No way! This is a great sound!

IMHO, if you want to call bobcat, I'd keep the bird sounds and maybe get a woodpecker sound. The rodent can be used as a close range coaxer. The pup in distress, or something similar, could help after you shoot a coyote. It might help to bring in a follower. I would ditch the gray fox and red fox to make room for other sounds. You could get another crow and another deer sound. The bobcat in heat is a good sound, but the timeframe of the bobcat being in heat is limited to a small amount of time. I might be tempted to change it and get a better "all around" sound that would call bobcat and other predators. You could eliminate the squirrel sound and get another coyote specific sound. JMHO. Some sounds work great everywhere! I just bought a FX5 from AP Jones at AllPredatorCalls.com. He gave me some good suggestions on sounds to pick when I bought my FX5. I have made 6 calling stands with my FX5 and called in 7 coyotes using the "snowshoe rabbit high pitch" and the "adult rat".
Call AP Jones and talk to him about what sounds to get. 435-674-2785.

Like Weasel said, save those sounds and get a pg adapter so you can load your own sounds. Either on your computer or to a tape. I was like you in that pup distress 2 had never worked for me. That was untill this last weekend. Called in 1 that my partner killed and I knew there were others in the area. Turned on pup disress2 and here they came. Always ways worth playing after a shot or at the end of a dry stand.

thanks a lot to everyone who has taken the time to give me advice here.

I'd still listen to more if anyone has anything to add..

IMO get rid of the locator they are worthless to most in the bushes east of the big river. Keep the Lucky Bird its a winner, as well as the Jackrabbit and grey fox pup 2 is a must if you them as it is a great call to go to after the shot. It has resulted in doubles for me and let it run loud and for a few minutes.

The coyote pup 2 is the equivalent of the gray fox pup 2 IMO. I have called coyotes back after the shot going to this sound when doubles have responded, have had barking yotes come in when I thought all was lost (I have a witness) and called them on its own merits by itself.

Give the calls a chance I have a habbit of starting out with my proven calls early on and then as the season nears a close I go to the other calls and do not feel as confident but thats in the stand since they yotes are really getting smart at coming into any noise. Any distress sound will get you action as long as you watch your woodsmanship. By the way contrary to alot of others who like the raspy and coarse sounds I have had alot of luck with the higher pitched sounds of baby rabbit, snowshoe hare, baby snowshoe, adult and baby rabbit duet. And if you like deer noises listen to the blacktail sounds if available on that unit. They are great especially the fawn and it does not matter if they are not native.
