Pentax Gameseeker 3-9X40 scope with new reticle

I was looking for a scope for my muzzleloader and decided on the Pentax Gameseeker 3-9X40 scope based on what others were saying about them. For what it's worth, they are now making it with the Penta-Plex reticle which is a basic duplex and not the upside down Christmas tree (ballistic reticle). I prefer a simple reticle for muzzleloader hunting. So far, the only retailer that is carrying them with this reticle is Cameraland. I bought a demo unit for $85 that looks new and came with the full warranty. For anyone considering a low-mid price scope you may be surprised at the clarity of this scope. I compared the low light performance with my Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 and was pleasantly surprised. The 4200 was slightly sharper but the Pentax had slightly more field of view. I don't know how it will hold up with the recoil of my 50 cal muzzleloader but my first impression was very favorable. Anyone else try one on a muzzleloader yet?

I bought a demo model from them and it's mounted on a Remington 700 .223. As far as clarity I think it's ok for the price. What I DON'T like about it is the eye relief. This is not a bench rest rifle and is used as a calling rifle. In my experience, the eye relief is way too short to comfortably use sitting down, backed up against a tree and using sticks. You have to crawl up on the stock to get any kind of sight picture and if you scoot the scope back in the rings far enough to be able get a sight picture, it's too close for any other kind of shooting. That is the only problem I have found with the scope. On a different kind of rifle I think the problem wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I just put one on my 17HMR in 4x-16x-50mm. Like TNyoteboy said eye relief is very short and clarity is good for the price. I didn't mind due to the HMR's limited effective range. I also have the 3x-9x 50mm on my Omega thumbhole muzleloader. I like the 50 mm brightness and loved the price of $119 shipped. It has the ballistic plex also. I got both from E. Arthur Brown.
