will human food make a dog live a shorter life,or is it if a dog becomes fat from eating people food? im asking because my pit bull puppy ate about 1 1/2 peaces that i threw outside.
Too much of any "human" food is not really good for humans and dogs can tolerate even less...some things, like Chocolate, are reported to be potentially fatal for them...
While I've fed my dogs a few table scraps over the years, it was always in small amounts and very seldom... The pet food industry usually tries to balance dog food with the nutritional elements they need, as long as they get good exercise...
On the other side, we used to have a neighborhood feral stray Lab mix that made his daily visit to the rear of the local grocery and the meat cutter would toss him a beautiful piece of Round Steak every day...That dog lived for years and was still going strong when we moved...
Hunter22mag, don't worry too much about it. Your pit will eat all sorts of stuff that you don't want it to, a hat, a lighter, a truck tire, even a box of soap infused brillow pads! I know if my pit ate something that killed her, I wouldn't be thinking "peaches"
my dogs always get the leftovers that don't get eaten at our house. If I find meat that is freezer burnt, they get it, three day old spaghetti, chilli, mashed potatoes, you name it, they eat it. anytime they get a meal that doesn't cost me anything extra is a good thing

Thats what I do too, I hate to see it go to waste. Normally they are feed good quality dry food though.
Read your dog foods ingredients. There are lots of things in there that are 'people food'.A lot of the newer foods have visible vegetables in it.Think about it,dogs have been eating mans scraps for hundreds of years.Breeds like the Swiss Mountain Dog,were bred for just that reason. They could pull a cart and do work on a belly full of leftovers.Hay was too hard to come by to own a horse.Look it up,it's true.On the flip side, those big dogs don't live much over 9 or 10.But that is because of there size, they say.
