Years ago I had a Aimpoint red dot sight that was awesome for small game and would probably work for coyotes too. When the dot was on the vitals it was a kill everytime, I can remember once when a squirrel showed it's head on the side of a tree at 40 yds I just about took it's head off!

I've been shooting rabbits and quail and squirrels and turkeys and about any other thing you'd shoot with a shotgun (other than slugs) with just a front bead and a ventilated rib... I don't expect coyotes will be much different or require anything different. That being said, I haven't taken my 870 out solely in search of coyotes yet either... But I don't expect to have any difficulty with its sighting system /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Maybe I'm just old-fashioned /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'm planning on patterning some #4 buckshot loads here hopefully next week just to get an idea of what's going on in front of my barrel, so hopefully Ol' Reliable will shoot close to point of aim with the buckshot as it does with all the other loads I've patterned out of it. If it doesn't, I guess I might have to do something different...

no scope...open bead...turn your headlamp looking down the barrel...and on the coyote...when hes coming in your on him..no adjustments...

That is my preference also in the daylight.

We are allowed to hunt at night and it is legal to use a laser sight. So I have mounted one under the barrel of my 11-87. I patterned it with #4 buck and Remington wingmaster HD T shot. I get great patterns with both. I sighted the laser to be centered in the pattern at 35 yards.

Don't have a coyote target to shoot at but out to 45 yards with the way it is set up I get plenty of both types of shot in a turkey sight in target. Looking forward to trying it on coyote and fox this fall. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I have used only the front sight that has come from the factory.

I do think that it would be a smart improvement to install a Hi Vis Front sight. Lots of the turkey guns have this kind of sight on them.

I don't want no hunk of glass, electronics, batteries, and wires bolted on top of my shotgun to slow me down, add weight, and have to baby around in the brush. And yes, I have done some training with e-sights of various types and do not care for them on a shotgun. If I absolutely had to have one for the one or two valid reasons requiring one, I think I'd look hard at the new Burris Speed Bead. Otherwise, bead and rib, twin beads, fiber optic bead, ghost ring aperture, or iron sights all work so well I have no use for anything else.

I use one of the fiber optic front site. It is easy to see in any light and isn't much bigger than the original front bead. Oh yeah it is mounted on a ven rib to help lineup.

I like the front bead and ventilated rib too.For shootin turkeys I like the two beads on the ventilated rib like on the Benelli Nova I use.The bead is hard to beat for shooting dove, quail, pheasant, ect.I have some of the HiViz sights like ackleyman was talking about but I cant get used to them for shooting birds. Its alot harder to get on the birds with those sights for me for some reason. They would work good for shootin turkey and yotes but I always forget to put them on my gun before I go out huntin those critters. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I went with the truglo Hi Vis adjustable sights and have not missed a single coyote (out to 70 yrd) since switching to them.

This is what I use. It is awesome! Light, tough, good battery life and fast target acquistion. It forgives less than perfect form and the batteries are readily available and cheap at most retail stores. Where the dot is, is where the pattern hits regardless if your cheek is on the stock or not! I shoot with both eyes open and IMO there is nothing quicker for multipules or second shots.
