Phantom Caller

I would like to hear from people that use electronic calls and why I rarely see any threads on the Phantom caller. I would really like an electronic caller, but at this point cannot afford the price of a Foxpro and remote. Is the Phantom really that far behind the Foxpro, or is this another one of those "...if you don't buy Leupold, Zeiss, etc. than it's junk" kind of things?

I don't have either caller but in the time I've been here on PM, the Predator has not gotten very good reviews as compared to the JS Preymaster which is sold at a comparable price. If that's your budget I would suggest you go the the PM SEARCH for some threads on each. That should give you enough info to make a wise choice. I think you'll find the Preymaster will win out in that price range.

Hope that will help you out.

I'll tell you what Bill, I'll give you my three cents worth and you can go from there!

I have bought and returned the phantom, because 1) the thing sucks for the $200 you throw down for it.
2) The sounds only play for about 15 sec tops! (HOWEVER I SAW AND ADD THAT STATED THE NEW ONES PLAY THE DISTRESS SOUNDS FOR 2 MIN, INTERVALS! DEFINITE BONOUS!)
3) The howls are too artificial...and repeat exactly the same every time!
4) For $150-160 you can get the JS preymaster that has more sounds, greater volume, longer playing period for sounds.
5) The Lohman cd player is good...$89 good plus the price of cds but it skips at the slightest touch..but still a good ecaller!

I like my prey master and lohman!

I have used them all. In my opinion the FoxPro is the best of the bunch but for the money you are talking about the Preymaster would be about the best choice. It is pretty much the same priniciple as the Phantom but appears to work and sound alot better. Check the search on both of these as mentioned. You will be able to make a educated choice from that I am sure.

Thanks for the information everyone. Coyote season closes here tomorrow (March 1) and reopens May 15. I don't know how soon I'll be able to swing the $$ for an e-caller, but am starting to think about it. Saving pennies right now to dump the BSA scope on my .223 for something better. Figure I need to be able to hit one if I do get it to come in!

Thanks again!

I have both the foxpro and phantom. Love the foxpro.I have dropped it,got it wet and left it in the cold for days and it never fails. Got a phantom this year thinking some variation in sounds would be good.I don't have a remote for the foxpro so I liked the idea of setting the phantom speaker away from me. Took it out one time and after fumbling around with 50 feet of tangled wire, started to call. It was cold and after 5 minutes out of my pocket, it would'nt play. Had to put it inside my coat to warm it up. Never used it again. Its for sale.

Yes, a preymaster s ussually cheaper and ahs the same sounds as te cassete version from js. The phantom is overpriced plastic that eats batteries and sounds like crap and dont work in the cold.

The FoxPro is one tough little sucker...
Last fall I was calling coyotes and as I was leaving my stand I realized that my foxpro was not in the truck. Well I had left it sitting on the top of the pickup bed. As I drove back to where I had parked I could see it laying in the dirt with tire tracks right over the top of it. I could see that the speaker was broken in half but it still played and sounded "almost perfect". Well needless to say I ended calling in two seperate doubles that morning with my Broken FoxPro. I sent it back to foxpro and they charged me $15 bucks for a new speaker and they had it back at my door step within ten days. If customer service means anything than FoxPro is TOPS....
