Pheasant calls for coyotes

Got a foxpro prowler recently and we do have quite a few pheasants in our area of the dakotas. Bought it at a store so it just has the preloaded sounds so wondering if i should grab a few native bird sounds. Saw that foxpro only has like 2 pheasant sounds (unless I missed some) so wondering if there is any other good libraries out there? Free would be nice for the wallet as well.

Yeah…. Native, or not, distress sounds can/will work to trigger coyotes.

No jackrabbits or prairie dogs anywhere near NY, but they call coyotes. Can’t say as I’ve ever seen a Guinea pig running around here either. Hell, every once in a while I hammer away on an open reed trying to sound like a bird. Ain’t no bird in existence that sounds like me, but I’ve had stuff show up! Lol…

That said, Foxpro does have a free sound library available on their website. I don’t recall what all is on there. Foxpro, MFK, Tony Tebbe and Bustin Fur are some places that have sounds for sale.

I guess my line of thought is I'm about 100 yards from a bunch of reeds with A LOT of pheasant. And I've been watching them at night a bit pass by the jacks and cottontails and either go for the mice or into the reads for what I'm assuming is a fairly tasty meal for them. So figured I'd try to key in on that. Did end up finding at least 2 free ones on icotec's app now just to get them off my phone onto my computer and then onto the foxpro.

I’m in the Dakotas too and use Foxpros pheasant and partridge sounds. Both have worked well for me. I’ve seen more success with partridge over the past two years. Magpie distress has also brought success.

My personal experience, I’ve had better success with the above sounds than I’ve had with the pre loaded and more popular bird sounds from Foxpro.

Pheasants, being ground-dwelling birds, are vulnerable to coyote attacks, making their distress calls highly enticing to these opportunistic hunters.
