Pig Squealer???

Well I was hoping to give pig calling a try so I ordered a K&H pig squealer.

This thing sounds exactly like a rabbit in distress... When I received it, the package was open..

Is this how it should sound or is it possible that it has the wrong reed or something in it? Ive never heard one squeal but didnt think it would sound like this!

I haven't tried a pig squealer of any kind but my first thought is that you may have to put a TON of air into it. Cup both hands at the end for back pressure and give her the mustard. I have heard pigs squeal also and if you want to sound like a hog you have to make a heck of a racket.

Just throwing ideas around is all. Worth a try maybe.

good advice guys!

I think this could work as a multi purpose call.. when blown at "regular" levels it sounds like a rabbit in distress. If you cup your hands and blow like [beeep] it sounds like a squeal.. but now my cheeks hurt...

Please hold all gay jokes!

In my limited experience, the closest I have heard to a pig distress sound is when working the YDD3 tonboard all the way towards the base of the reed.

Here's my pig squealer:

If you don't hit them right, they'll squeal like crazy

I don't think a pig squealing would attract other pigs. It's a sound that would probably send them running! I don't know all there is about pigs, by a long shot, but I've whacked a bunch of them in the last few years. I have yet to find a call that worked on piggies, YMMV........

Im thinking that ill just keep this squealer in the "coyote call" box as I think it will work pretty good for that!

The reasoning that I read for the squeal attracting them was 1) It attracts mommas to protect 2)it attracts males to "shut them up".... No personal experience so im not for sure if the theory will work!

Im thinking that Ill buy a second chip for my spitfire and ill program some hog calls on there. I know of one guy who has said that hes called some, again never SEEN it...

My (limited) experience, too. I had a piglet distress call on an e.caller and decided to see how a herd of pigs would react when they stepped out of the brush about 20 yards from the truck. Pigs scattered like a covey of quail! Note to self, don't try that one again

When a pig squeals; pigs scatter.

Only exception is IF a sow thinks it's one of her babies. Then you better be off the ground in a stand, because most folks forget their shotgun when they climb trees, and a pig on the ground can sit there a whole lot more comfortable, than you can sit in a tree waitin for her to leave!!

^ Thanks for the help guys! Looks like I may have to try a sound other than the squeals.

On a side note, the gun I plan on taking will be my 11-87. I think it would be pretty fun to shoot a charging one with some 00buck... kinda like a mini cape buffalo hunt!

I was waiting for deer season to end before trying to call any pigs. I saw several groups while deer hunting but didn't want to junk up the area by shooting any of them. I had never tried to call them before but I thought I wouldn't have anything to lose if I tried.

I have only had one chance to go after them since deer season was over. I put my foxpro out about 50 yards in front of my box blind. The first thing I did was play the piglet in distress call for a few minutes. Nothing... Then I went to sow fight for about 45 seconds and waited...nothing. Gave about a 10 minute break and then started the batchler bore fight. Played that for about 45 seconds and turned it off. About 2 minutes later, here comes a 200# bore. He walked out into the clearing where I had my caller. He would walk about 10 yards at a time. Each time he would stop and look around. I only let him do that twice. Did I call him in??? Who knows, but I like to think I did.
