Polaris Ranger 400 4X4

About a month ago I bought a 2010 Polaris Ranger side by side. I put 20 hours on it and want to do the first oil change. The manual says use 2w-50 synthetic, which the dealer sells. I cant find that oil anywhere and the dealership isnt close. My question is, if anybody has this model and what oil are they running in it?

Thank you,
Gabe

Never heard of 2W-50 oil??? Must be a Polaris thing or a typo in the hand book. 0W-40 Mobil 1 would be your best bet and the closest. But I'm no expert just trying to help, in my ATV and jet ski I only run Valvoline oil 10W40, and run Fram filters and never had any problems with nothing and also in all my cars and trucks but in them I use 5W30...

I agree, it must be 20w-50. In my quads i run rotella T in either 10w-40 or 20w-50. I don't worry about full sythetic but if your manual calls for it, you should run it.

Thanks for the responces guys, but it is not a typo. Polaris has their synthetic motor oil, 2W-50. And it cost over $9.00 a quart. I called service today and of course they said if you use other oils and it causes engine damage your warranty will be voided.

Thanks,
Gabe

You might want to look at Amsoil synthetics. They've got links to a lot of testing, and it comes out on top in the overall catagory.

I'm pretty sure Polaris doesn't own a synthetic oil research and development facility, they're buying somebody else's product and slapping their label on it (and jacking the price).

I'm just sayin.

How much oil are we talking here? Does one quart cover an oil change?

Ditto. I run 3 ATV's on the ranch- 2 Yamaha Grizzly 660's and 1 Bruin 350 as backup. We put 1500 miles a season on them and I change the oil every 500. I use Rotella T synthetic, and used the non-syn for several years. Am perfectly happy with it. Rebuilt the top ends on both 660's at 5,000 hours.

I agree, Polaris is putting their name on someone else's oil. For the 2 quarts that it holds the oil change is inexpensive. Its just not that convinent to get to the dealer for the oil, instead of running to an Auto Zone or Walmart. I went today and bought oil for the next 3 changes to save me the trip. I just wanted to know what other guys were running through their engine.

Thanks for the help,
Gabe

I have a 500Efi Ranger and run the Polaris oil. My best friend is the Polaris dealer and he says it is no joke that other oils will burn the engine up.

I run the Polaris synthetic oil also, Have a friend at the Polaris factory in Rouseu that said the same thing as tnob, I just buy enough oil for 3-4 changes even though I have a dealer accross the river.

By the way, how do you like the midsize range? I have a 700XP and was looking at one of those to work out of. I put 6000 + miles a year on a 4 wheeler crop consulting and need the room for 2 people and all our gear.
