Poor hunter sighting

A couple days ago a friend and I were sitting at the rim of a large draw in an area with only a few roads. Around ten we got in the truck to eat. On the lower road about 700 yds out and 100 yds down we hear a truck aproaching fast. Two men get out and run to the edge. They return to the truck and get a rifle & bow each. Splitting up they go to the edge of the landing placing weapons on the ground behind them near bushes. Both standing one starts squeezing a cow elk call. Then one starts blowing a mouth call. Both looking 360 constantly while stepping back and forth. This goes on for twenty minutes til I blew my howler. One pointed us out to the other. They grabbed the weapons putting the rifles in the cross bed toolbox, bows behind the seat and took off. It is illeagal to have any firearm while bow hunting here. Beside the fact their hunting skills are way below measurement. I wish some hunters would stay home.

you should have called the game warden in your area with your cell phone, gave him there location and descrition of there vehicle, that would have broke up that party,,in a friggin hurry,,

Yes these bozos are all of the above. We went back to the next crossroad but they had already passed. You can gain points for turning in some game law violators here. Season isn't over yet.

dumb and dumberer

i picture jeff foxworthy and bill engvall

jus cuirous have any of u guys seen the incomplete deer hunter with jeff foxworthy

if so thos 2 were willy and billy

Yes, they are not hunters, they are trying to cheat. The WA law actually states its illeagal for the bow hunter to have a firearm while bow hunting. His weapons bearing partner would be leagal if he said he was bear hunting or coyote hunting. It just doesn't look right and would be just tuff to sale while the bow hunter is cow calling. Stupid people doing stupid things. Take Care, Paul

I agree. Git dang S&$tbirds trying to ruin it for others.

What a great way to get your points, they may have been completly legal and you were gonna turn them in to get points?Did you see them do anything actually illegal or did you just assume they were trying to?If the bow hunter wasnt carrying a gun then what law did he break? Its people that are looking for a reason to call the game cops that make hunting hell, and to reward people with points?Sounds like a communist plot to me,turn in your neighbors, get in the party...

As I stated in my original post both hunters had long guns and bows, this is a clear violation of state hunting laws, and clearly with the intent to cheat. If it weren't for lazy cheats like this, honest hunters wouldn't need to consider turning anyone in. Either you didn't read all of the post or paranoia got the best of you.

Reward programs like that end up prompting idiots to cause trouble for people who are not doing anything wrong, they should have a stipulation that if you make false reports you loose your hunting rights for 10 years, that would keep people honest.

But what, exactly, does WA law say about a firearm hunter to have a bow while hunting?

All states are different, but many are setup such that when it is bow season for a species, if you are pursing that species you can't have a firearm on your person while hunting. However, if it is an "Any Legal Weapon" season as it is called here in NV, you can wander through the woods with a blackpowder rifle, bow, and handgun all straped to your person and be perfectly legal, if not odd looking.

BroncoGlenn, you are right there are times and areas hunts you may use any legal tag. However in this case under Archery elk Hunting method: Archery tag holders can only hunt during archery elk seasons and must hunt with archery equipment. Hunting equipment must meet archery regulations on page 15. Hunting and Equipment Methods-3.Archery (c)It is illeagal to carry or have in possession any firearm while in the field archery hunting, during the archery season specified for that area. 4. Dispatching Wounded Game, A hunter can only use a hunting method that meets the equipment requirements of his/her tag to dispatch wounded game. These two were calling elk in an archery elk area. With archery season being extremely longer than modern firearm season it would be easy to pop one then put an arrow in it. When this became a problem more rules were created. Although I have strong disagreement on many issues with the WDFW, rules are required to maintain hunting. After refreshing myself on the rules I see they offer cash and or points.

Tripod, gotcha now. I understood the initial posting to be an any legal weapon hunt where one hunter was using a bow and the other a rifle.

Personally I think the game laws need some tuning regarding carrying personal defense handguns (such as a concealed carry gun) while bow hunting as many states F&G laws do not allow firearms while bowhunting, as is evident with your state. But then the waters start to get murky when preemption (for those states with such status) comes into play where no other state or local agency can pass more restrictive laws regulating firearms. So in essence the F&G law isn't a legal law.

I agree the laws could use some tuning, and fully support carrying a defense weapon. Since the trapping & hound ban the cougar population has increased. I know two hunters that wish they had a sidearm while cougars stocked them. The state & federal laws always get me confused. I have watched the process of gun purchase at the local gun store. Let me tell you the city, county, state, federal, fbi, atf, thing is not always smooth, often with personal interpretation along the way. When one says yes and the other says no??? The late delivery of the new form 4473(white one)was confusing.

You can carry a firearm while bowhunting here in MT,they changed the law after a few bowhunters became Grizzly chew toys because they were unable to stop a charging grizz with a bow.

Nonya,

I would have to disagree... Would you want to be penalized for reporting something out of the ordinary and having it turn out to be fine? If you saw a car swerving back and forth down the high way and called the Police would you want to risk a punishment for doing the right thing? Reward systems are great. If the report turns out to be a non-issue then no harm no foul. I have been checked every year by the COlorado Division of Wildlife while hunting for the past 8 years. Nothing has ever happened as i have not broke the law. If someone called in to report me, so be it I have nothing hide. The incentive program is great, I can't wait unitl I catch someone. Since CO started the reward system I pay much closer attention to things that are happening around me. The year before they started the reward program I turned in a group that had killed 6 bull elk. They had 6 tags to fill, however only 2 guys were hunting the canyon where the elk were killed. The division investigated and found that the hunters had 5 different caliber they were using and only one caliber of shell/bullet was found. Come to find out the guys involved were providing illegal outfitting services, and also had been reported doing the same thing during previous 2 years, but never got caught. The year I turned them in the DOW collected enought Evidence to convict all involed on several charges. Wish I had the reward system then....
