portable power bank to recharge LS64?

The other night deadra and I put our 64’s to use and hers ran down by the end of the night, (first charge) got to thinking and stopped by radio shack and picked up a couple of portable power banks for $50, I got the largest one that would fit in a shirt pocket. Now I’m no electronics guy at all and most of those numbers are greek to me, all I know is red/pos, blk/neg, grn/ grd and don’t touch them together!

What I got was a 12Wh (2900mAh) power bank. Input 5VDC----- 1A Max , output 5DVC -----1A Max

So all you guys with and education in this, tell me will it charge my 64 up between stands and should I let it get low before charging?

It will charge it up, I think the charger on the flir is 1amp or 1000ma same thing, if flir charger is 2A the charger you listed will be slower at charging. Lithium batteries last longer (lifespan)when topped off, do not wait for them to completely discharge if you can charge before that. The older nimh or nicd needed to be discharged if not a memory effect would happen, more so with the nicd than the nimh. I use a car USB adaptor and top the flir off while driving. I don't think you are suppose to operate it while charging. Not sure of the charging circuit's design to tell you that its ok to use it while charging. A well designed circuit it would not matter, but without knowing only flir engineer familiar with unit could answer that.

I did buy two of them, one for deadra and one for myself, checked the flir manual and it states to turn unit off when charging.

figure I'll charge between stands and with both of us one will be charging one scanning when walking a good distance into a stand

I used it once to charge my phone and it did it pretty quick, I'll see how it does on the 64 tonight when I run it down scanning for dillos

I use one of the smaller portable battery jumpers when I am overlooking the dead piles I shoot over. About 7 lbs, so its not one Id carry all night. I keep the ps32 plugged in and on when using it constantly over said piles.
Im going to get a small portable power pack for the stands we walk to and scan as above.

I spoke with flir about 7 months ago about using a usb battery packet while the unit is on. They told me it was ok. Maybe someone can get a confirmation. I electrical tape a usb power pack to the unit (sometimes i forget to charge) and use it with the helmet/hand. the power pack has a short cord that is attached.

thanks benelli, ran it constant the other night till 1/2 down on power and noticed I had to hard boot it so the buttons would work, as in zoom and wht/blk/inst? over heating? it was low 40's that night, will see if it does it again

When i initially got the flir ps32 and tried cycling fast between modes it hung up once. I couldn't duplicate the problem again...

Ever since i did the firmware updated last month from this forum there seems to be a slight delay when changing modes. Only occurs every once in a while, but no hang up or reboot is required.

1. It will come in handy for solar charging NiMh batteries when the SHTF.

2. You can use the battery module (without the solar panel) with 4 AA NiMH batteries or 4 AA Alkaline any time to charge your LS64.

Sounds like a good idea, however, the sun is not shining when i am using my Thermal at night.

Don't be a tard. You can use it 3 ways:

1. You can charge your LS64 directly during the day.

2. You can charge NiMH batteries during the day and then use those batteries to charge your LS64 whenever you want. Even at night.

3. You can use the battery module with AA alkaline batteries to charge your LS64 whenever you want. Even at night.

I would suggest you purchase two of them!

1 for me and 1 for you!

This what I am getting for LS64 charging/ extended run in the field. I have various lights, rifle mounted , head lamp, IR light 3.4w, handheld light, and use xtar charger to charge cell phone in the field if needed. All use 18650 batteries. So only AA is in the PVS14 and N type for EOTECH. The 18650 3400mah batteries last a long time, they provide close to 10 Watts of power each. So should last all night with ls64, put mobile power pack on back of helmet as counter weight. I use the flir ps24 head mounted hoping to do the same with ls64.

Mobile power bank

Right angle mini usb

Orbtronic batteries

XTAR charger
