Powder measure

They all pretty much suck when it comes to long stick powder. The Prometheus 2 is probably the best. Better have deep pockets.

$3800'ish will get you your own. Worth every penny to me.

I bought the vibratory trickler for it later and really like it for the tiny stick powders and ball powders. I sure wish I'd have bought a prometheus 2 when they were only $2500. The guys that don't buy one now and get one later will no doubt feel the same way when they are $5000.

I'm seeing a lot of auto-trickler setups for cheaper electronic scales these days. I think that is where most guys will end up. Electronics just aren't real trustworthy, not in comparison to the Prometheus anyway, but the cost of entry sure will be appealing to guys. Once someone gets a turn-key scale/trickler/software setup out there for around a grand, I bet there will be a lot of people going that way. I certainly won't regret having purchased my green glow machine at that point however.

Way out of my meager budget. Unless I hit the loto. Maybe we should try for just a real good powder dispenser instead of the best.

Real good, on a budget, is the RCBS Chargemaster 1500 combo. I ran those two in the picture for several years before moneying down on the promie.

I have the Lyman 1200 and it has served me well but its a few years old and I'm not real sure how much I trust it. Seem to throw the heavy loads pretty accurate but loads for my practical and 204 and 223, I'm beginning to doubt the accuracy. I have an old 55 but it is a PITA to set up and the electronic powder dispenser has got me spoiled. One of my friends has an old style similar to the 55 but has been converted to clicks = grains and he just dials in the correct number of clicks for the grains of powder. Works really good for him. I think the person that did the conversion has long passed.

RCBS is a great set up for us mere mortals. I've had one for several years, just added a second when my Hornady crapped out.

The Hornady is really easy to use, but if it spits the bit after the 1yr warranty, you're SOL with a $200-250 paperweight. I was very happy with mine for speed and accuracy until it gave up the ghost at 3yrs. It still HALFWAY worked, but it often gets a bug up its butt and will only throw one or two before it pukes out and needs to be reset, then it'll get stuck over-throwing for a handful... Then the next day it'll do 400rnds without a hiccup and never outside +/-0.1grn. I bought two of them on a super deal, gave one to my brother, it's still going strong - mine crapped out... Guess he got the better end of that deal...

That's what I really like about it.

It's done well for me. I leave it on most all the time. I also set the charge .1gr low when throwing big stick powders. Trickle of under, never seems to go over my target weight. Easy enough for me.

Prometheus is probably the fastest complete set up and accurate to within + - a kernel.

I use a RCBS Chargemaster to throw the bulk of the charges and then trickle the rest using a Omega trickler on a FX120I, which also weighs + - to the kernel.

Several of my shooting friends use the Sartorius scales which are very good as well.

Actually due to the way the prometheus functions, it is accurate to + 1 kernel - zero. It can't really throw a charge "under," only over, and it is almost never (ever) over by more than 1 kernel.

I looked at the Gen6 today and really like it. The store owner uses one and says it throws very consistent charges. I think this is more in the range of my budget.
