hey guys im looking for a round to shoot out of a ten or twelve inch encor barrel. all my friends shoot the 223 10 inch. thus i cant bring my self to have the same toy they do. im looking for a round that is very close to the 223 in preformance. i also reload. im thinking 22ppc but not sure about the short barrel part. do u guys have any input or round suggestoin
 

Have you considered the 221FB? Hodgdon data shows 2900 plus with the 40's and over 2500 with the 50's in the 10.75" barrel. My older 221fb 10" octagon contender barrel doesn't do quite that well with those loads. I'm thinking a 12 " might add a 50-100fps with that cartridge.
 
my buddys 223 barrel has killed a lot of deer with the 55 grn soft nose. i would like to do the same. i thought the 221fb would be a bit light for this once in a while task. 90 percent of the time it will be used for predator hunting. i thought the 225 winchester might bee to hot for those thinskinned fox. they say the 225 is prety close to a 22-250. but then agine every thing u read is out of a rifle barrel, who knows how much punch u lose when it gets put in a 10 -14 incher?
 
Since you mentioned the ppc, have you though of the 22 or 6mm benchrest rounds. I have a 22br in a rifle, and it is a fine round, and very accurate. Should easily surpass the buddies 223's. Same for the 6br.

i just looked it up, they comparied it to the 22 ppc, ill have to do some more research on the brass

i would like to stay in the 22 cal for the sake of the hides

17inch barrel in 223 rem ackly improved ..If you want to just

Of course you will get more velocity out of a 17 in barrel.
but you can get one any length from 9" on up.

ha ha thanks , like i need more to chew on. i fig his 223 10inch is at about 2/3 the power that the rifle barrel would be.? this is the power level im trying to maintain (or what ever u guys think his levels are) has anyone had the 22 ppc in a hand gun? i think its a close match for what im looking for but maby thers a better one im still loooking into the 22br. i fig it might as well be a wildcat if im going to hand load anyway
