Predator Hunting on Deer Lease

I joined a deer hunting lease this year and plan to try to do some predator hunting after deer season closes. But I was wondering, can you predator hunt while others are deer hunting on the same property? Doesn't seem like it would work but though I would ask the more experienced hunters here at PM before I just dismissed the idea outright. Thanks for any info you may have on this.

I think it depends alot on the amount of land you're talking about. If you're out of sight and hearing range, then I don't see why not. I would.

One year we had a group of coyote running around while we were deer hunting. We all agreed to shoot them on site. So no one cared that I was calling for them. But I did wait until 8:30 a.m. or so to start calling them. That way the other hunters could hunt for awhile. We did kill 4 that weekend and I call one of those in and killed it. i guess you just need to ask those you are hunting with. Sometimes deer do come into the calls.

Try out a fawn distress, I have had alot of luck with it year round. Near the rut you will have both deer and predators come to it, I have called in bobcats, coyotes, fox, as well as a couple of 130" - 140" bucks in November and December. But I would gain a concensus of the members before blowing a call during prime hunting hours.

Most deer leases I am familar with, you are only allowed to hunt "your spots". This limits you to one or 2 calling spots for the deer season, because many members are not going to want you hunting in their areas.

I just wait until after the deer season, and then most of them will give you permission to call their spots and you have the place to yourself.

Rainshadow- Our lease is on 1200 acres. Most stand sites are within 500 yards of each other. Sometimes much less.

Thunderstruck- Part of our lease agreement with the landowner is to take out any coyotes we see while hunting. Good idea about the timing though. I could make an occasional stand during the midday lull. Need to try hunting some during the middle of the day anyway.

Cbosshog79- Will try that for my bow stand. Maybe last 30 minutes of a morning hunt and just take what comes. Good idea. You may be on to something.

Yellowhammer- Your close. We have personal stand sites and a few "public" stands but they're near each other. Don't want to mess up someones chance at a nice buck. We follow QDM rules so not many bucks will be taken there, in my opinion. But the ones taken will be nice if not exceptional for our area. Coyotes are pretty fat and happy too.

Thanks to all of you for the help.
Bill

Entropy- I do all the varmint hunting when season is over and have full run of the place. We have the same agreement and that goes for hogs to. But it doesn't matter were we are at on the lease when this critters show.
