Primer pocket brushes

I may be trying to use the wrong size brush. Is the brush supposed to fit the pocket fairly close or is there normaly lots of room to wallow the brush around in? I may be using a pistol brush in a larg rifle pocket. Who knows. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

if your using the rcbs wire brush then yes sloppy is the way they are. the bristles also get frayed looking in not too much time. i quit using mine and now use sinclair primer pocket uniformers to clean my pockets. much happier. also found the hornady cleaners work good too, they are solid metal with a rough pattern on the face.

Yes, rcbs wire brush is what I was using. Gess I wasted money there. Ill go back to my uniformer in a power screwdriver.

Thanks for the help!

RCBS primer pocket brushes are flat across the tip. Since a lot of primer pockets are cupped or dished it doesn't do well cleaning the entire pocket. It misses the deeper middle of the pocket. Plus like mentioned after a while the bristles start to fray and bend and you have to cut that bent bristle off. Not a bad tool, just not perfect.None of the primer pocket cleaning tools are perfect. The primer pocket uniformers with carbide cutters work as good as anything especially after the pockets have been uniformed once.
