Here the deal : fire forming brass for .243AI.
I want to see how the cream of wheat method compred to the stanard .243 load.
In The cream of wheat method ( actually corn meal ) I used 10 gr. of unique , filled the case to the shoulder woth corn meal the TP on top to hold it in.
The stanard load was 95 gr. Hornady vmax over 41.0 gr H414.
The primer pocket were uniformed with Sinclar primer pocket tool.
on both the " cream of wheat " case's the primers pushed and on the stanard load they but seem to flaten a bit.
Any ideas why this happened ?
The 2 on the left are the "cream of wheat " cases
NOTE : if you click on the picture you can enlarge it in photbucket.

Ideas? Use Lapua brass and leave the primer pocket uniform tool on the bench. With good brass, the uniform tool won't d any good. I've never seen where a pocket uniform tool did any good, group wise.

The two with the primers backed out had low pressure loads, throw them away because they stretched the case. The flat primer cases have nothing wrong with them. Did you notice how the depth of the lettering was intact.

My fire forming load in a 12 twist 243 AI is 47g of win 760 with a 70g Nosler bT, very accurate.

Send me a pm and we will talk more

To fire form use a slight bit less than a START load with a fairly fast powder and seat the bullet of your choice (cheap) to engage the rifling, you could even give it an extra thousandth or two to make sure. This gets the case/bullet combination to a point of no slop in the chamber hence no stretched cases and a properly blown out shoulder. I personally don't want anything other than powder and bullet going down my barrel. Besides your method is a waste of good corn meal that would be better used to make corn bread. I have a lot of experience fire forming 17MachIV and 6mmAI. Fire form loads can be VERY accurate so keep some good notes on them.
