Priming tools

Well, it seems I've worn out both my Lee hand priming tools. Looking for ideas for replacement, and I kind of like the hand tools.
Thanks for your ideas.

Ive had several, started with a RCBS, till it got where it wouldn't seat deep enough. Then the Hornady, it worked well enough till the same thing happened, it wouldn't seat deep enough. I called Hornady, and their answer was that "It sounds like you just wore it out!". So I got a RCBS Universal, and really like it, it's the best so far. I will probably try a LEE at some point.

I'm getting a little tired of rebuilding Lees - the plunger that pushes the seater rod is made of a pot metal, and doesn't hold up. Of the 2 I have, I bought 1 new in '94, and "inherited" the other. I don't believe I've loaded over 10K rounds on the one I bought, but, maybe.

I had RCBS many years ago then got turned on to LEE. I have used them for 20 years and would never look back.... until I saw this. Looks much better built, but is the same design as the LEE. It is twice the money as the LEE, but looks good. Anyway either of these would be what I would use.

If you keep the Lees lubricated with wheel bearing grease they will last forever. The one I am usung is at least 25 years old and has loaded well over 100,000 rounds.

+1 I use a little "high vacume grease" and I have ran mine for 20+ years. The only complaint I have with the Lee is that the little groove on the back kind of cuts into my fingers when I do a lot of brass at one sitting. It's the only primer tool I have ever owned.

I'm currently using the RCBS and like it. However, I drilled a hole on the handle and tapped it for a bolt and then fiddled with the bolt adjustment, (in/out). Now I just press the handle until the bolt stops it and my primers are seated just were I want them.

That priming tool from 21st century looks nice. I have used the Rcbs universal ,the Lee, and the Hornady. Out of those three I like the Hornady the best, it has a really good feel for seating the primers.

A hand tool will allow you to have a better feel for when the primer is seated than you can on a press.

Plus you can sit on the couch and watch TV while priming brass. LOL

I have been using the Lee hand priming tool for 20+ years and like the way it works. The arthritis in my hands have been causing me problems so I bought a Hornady hand priming tool and like it pretty well as it is easier on my old hands.

I just noticed an ad in one of my magazines for a new Lee hand priming tool that is just coming out. It looks a bit like the Hornady hand primer in that you use your entire hand to seat the primer instead of just your thumb but the pivot point is on the other end of the handle from the Hornady. I am going to get one as soon as they are available. Here is a link to take a look.

It's easier for me to feel the primers seating than it is with my rockchucker. Either will work but i just prefer the auto prime
