You can do a lot better for the money. I did own one and it worked, but it took a while to break it in. I really finally got the hang of it and lost it. Didn't shed ony tears after trying some others.

I have a "lil dog" and like it. I don't have nor have I tried the hot dog. I do have a Dan Thompson Red-Desert howler, and the hot dog looks like an imitation of it to me. I like the red desert real well.

I have the hot dog and the mini mag howler. I like the mini mag the best. I think it is easier to control the different sounds you can make with them. You can make alot of distress sounds with both howlers.

I bought 2 crit-r-calls since and like them better than the hot dog. The thing I like the most is that you can replace the reeds in just minutes to change sounds.

I got a hot dog, but first id like to say ive only blown 2 howlers so far, a hot dog and a desert howler, to me the desert howler was harder, the hot dog was difficult at first dont get me wrong but im better with the hot dog, im still in the practicing stage with it though, so i havent used it in the field, ill stick to the foxpro for howls and ki yi's right now, but ill let ya know when i get to use the hot dog.

If I may put my two cents in here I would have to say go look at the custom call makers forum and talk to a few of those guys. I have talked with 4 differant makers and have found them all to be very helpful

I wasted a whole season on the hotdog and raspy coaxer, never did get good sound out of that hotdog. I bought a call on here a few weeks ago and LOVE IT!

Plus, I was having some trouble getting the howl off it, 15 minutes with the call maker on speaker phone and bam, I can get good howls and awsome kiyi's. I couldn't just call up ole' Will Primos and ask him for some help like you can these guys, and I went back to the hotdog and still can't get them with it.

I paid like 29 bucks for the hotdog, I paid 15 bucks for a call 20 times better. It would be money well spent in my opinion.

Good luck,
ISDB

I agree, get a custom call from any one of the makers on this forum. They are all very talented. I have calls from 5 or 6 of them. I like them all! The problem is I can't decide which one to use.

I haven't been calling long, but I have the hot dog and I find it a lot easier to use with just the mouth piece. I take the barrel off almost always. Maybe I would have more luck with it on, but it sure is easier to make the sounds I think I should be making.

Go with a custom call or the red dessert howler by Dan thompson. Primos is junk, I like the videos, but the calls are being made cheaper and cheaper all the time.

I just got the hot dog, and the Ki yi. I cant keep the hot dog from breaking when finishing the howl. I went out he this after noon, on my second series the reed stuck, and its not cold here. I am ordering some custom calls, I knew better before I bought them. These are my first predator calls. I know from duck calling, that custom is better.

Tater, that is what mine was doing, every time it sounded good the reed would stick or the pitch would break somethen' terrible. You will enjoy the customs!
