Hi Guys

I am new to this forum and to electronic calls and I can use your experience.

I am an European hunter, my question is since we hunt in Europe , we hunt some animals that do not exist too much in the U.S. like:

ROE DEER

JACKAL

WILD BOAR

And some regular foxes.

I generally go stalking on the mountains at nights with Thermal Cams and Night vision and when we come across to these animals we hunt them down.

This week, I came across to a Roe Deer and he felt us from far away and he ran away, a village guy next to me simulated some Roe Deer sounds with his mouth and the Roe Deer started marching towards us and we hunt him down.

This incident made me think that maybe it is time for me to buy an electronic caller .

I made some research and I came across to Primos, FoxPro and some others.

I need your experience and recommendation on which one to buy and what are the points I must look after. I would like to buy the best one and concentrate on my new hunts.

And is there any tips you can teach me as I AM VERY NEW TO electronic calls

Here are two pictures of Jackals and Wild Boars that was caught by my trail cam.

Considering the difference in sounds that may work as an attractant or challenge for the animals that you list, you might be better off to email the individual companies to see what sounds they have...

While the Fox Pro is one of the most used over here and has a lot of fans, they may not have the sounds in their library that you need...To me, rather than trying to pick what is best, what is available might be the better criteria...

I would contact Fox Pro, Primos, Wildlife Technologies, and Johnny Stewart for specific information...While I know very little about the customer service of each, the Fox Pro and Johnny Stewart have great reputations on this board...

Now that's some good advice.

I contacted Foxpro and Primos and they both told me I could use my own MP3 sound files alright.

Also they both said they would consider adding new sounds of new animals in the future too.

Sounds like a FoxPro then ?

No doubt in my mind about that, doublecheese. You can take programs like Goldwave and learn to make sequences, mixed sounds, and more to suit your needs, and put them right on your ecaller. Another thing to consider, IMO, is distress sounds already in the FoxPro library will work well in your part of the world just like they do here. I don't believe a predator is all that discriminate about identifying exactly what the animal is that is screaming. It is just their dinner bell ringing.

Our Jackals mainly attack the rabbits, birds as well as new born goats and sheep of the farmers around.

So I am guessing Rabbit distress and Bird distress sounds will do the trick anyway.

EDIT: Just ordered FoxPro Shockwave from EBAY for $554,00 , it will be shipped to my U.S. address and then will be forwarded to my Europe address. Hopefully 2nd week of May , I will be using it

There are good kid goat sounds in the FoxPro library, as well as many other critters in distress. I wish you good hunting and know you will enjoy your Shockwave.

Thanks for the good will

Funny enough I went to a night wild boar hunt this friday, while waiting for my boar to arrive, I played some rabbit/jackrabbit distress sounds from my mobile phone (I have a HTC ONE phone and it has quite loud speakers for a phone)

In about 4 minutes time, I saw 3 Jackals about 100meters ahead of me on the dirt road (It was dark and I saw them with my Thermal Cam) I was in my car, when I opened the door, they run away. I kept on playing the distress sound and in about 3 minutes, I heard some noises from the bushes just near me, I looked with my N.V. and I saw two jackals looking at my direction trying to understand the source of the rabbit sound.

It was a very easy shot as I was only about 30 meters away. But I did not shoot at them as my main target was a huge Wild Boar which I had been feeding for a while and I did not want to scare away the boar.

The summary is, the Jackals in my hunting area are NOT used to such Calls as there are not many hunters around and due this above experience I am sure that when I get my FoxPro Shockwave I will call lots of Jackals

I received my FoxPro Shockwave and took it to the field just to try it. I did not have my rifle and I only had an automatic AR15 (exact look alike) shotgun which shoots 36 cal slugs. ( .410) with a 14 rounds magazine.

While trying understand how FoxPro works, two jackals came by in just 3 minutes. My friend shoot one of them with my AR15 Shotgun but he missed as the distance was about 90 yds.

Then we took the FoxPro to another spot and in about 7 minutes time another Jackal came by at about 70yds, I made my friend shoot again and this time the jackal fell down but got up again and ran into the bushes.

It was strange the Jackals were reacting to the Coyote and Fox sounds.

Only if I had my rifle with me , we would have 2 jackals in 10 minutes of calling.

I am very happy so far with the quick results, can't wait to test it fully soon.

You can see the Foxpro on the grass if u look carefully.

doublecheese, glad you like your Shockwave. The jackals responding to the coyote & fox sound is predictable as I see it. If that is a strange sound to your area, if they are anything like coyotes, they are likely to come check it out. Good hunting at ya.

Yesterday I called two more jackals, they check the sounds to understand what is happening.

I already bought the African Jackal sounds yesterday, they sound a little bit different to ours but it is ok.

Finally I played the Distressed Calf for about 5 minutes and saw a herd of cows and bulls and calfs all running towards the sound source, it was spectacular.

Thanks to my FoxPro Shockwave , I shot this thing 2 nights ago .

This thing looks like a mixture of a WOLF + JACKAL + DOG , but we could not name it back here ... Does anybody know what kind of an animal is this ?

P.S. when I called them, there were 3 Jackals and this one infront of them all came at the same time, in other words this one the leader of other 3 Jackals .

doublecheese, I don't know what you'd call that rascal over there, but it is very similar to a coydog over here. Whatever, it is truly spectacular. Kudos to you for a fine kill.
