Primos Turbo Dogg Review

Recon Ops

So, I am a newcomer to the predator hunting world. I am extremely excited about it though, even after 18 stands and no kills--ok not even a shot yet.

I bought a Primos Trubo Dogg last week and tested it out this past Friday and Saturday. Here is what I have to say about this call.

I really like the call and remote, and it's built in 36 sounds, and the 4 expert hunt call sequences. With these expert hunt sequences, all you have to do is hit the play button and you have a 20-30 minute call sequence put together by experts. That's makes it easier for a new guy like me who might not want to fiddle with looking at a screen the whole time, but wants the machine to do all the work whilest I scan the terrain for sign of dogs.

The problem with my particular unit was the remote didn't work properly. The box advertises a 150 yard range. Several Cabelas reviews made mention of there's working at about 100 yards with no problem. I had the caller out a maximum of 60 yards (usually 30-40) out and the signal wasn't communicating to the unit and vice versa. It has a countdown on each call sequence so you know when it will shift down to the next call in the sequence. None of that was working right past about 20 yards, no exaggeration. When outside of that range, the unit would stay stuck on the first call sequence after it terminated. Then it wouldn't move to the next one. It just sat there, and me helpless. It was really quite frustrating because while trying to get the thing to work, and fiddling around, I actually had 2 groups of coyotes howling back at me. That was awesome! (can you tell I'm new at this!!). But I was helpless because the unit wasn't working properly and I didn't have a manual call.

However, I do really like the call itself. The Primos customer service rep seemed surprised by my feedback and they were very helpful to me in addressing my grievances. They are actually sending me a new remote control in the mail tomorrow to see if that fixes the problem. I am hoping so, because I would give the unit high marks as a newbie if it had been working properly. If it doesn't fix the problem, I will return it for a refund. If anyone is interested in knowing if this improves the units range I'll follow up after I can retest it.

Thats the main issue with the new Turbo & Alpha units. Primos finally sent me a new remote (took them 3 months) for my unit and it still FAILS to work in the field past 40'. Lay it farther in the grasses or shrubs and it fails again to communicate with the base unit, so nothing has changed.
Primos cannot be surprised as they have known about this for a while now as I have posted my field reviews here and linked them to here in my emails to Primos on their site as others have.
