Problem with AR-15 shell catcher

I have one of the mesh bag type shell catchers for the AR-15 that has developed a problem. The UTG shell catcher, like many of this type, has an imbedded spring wire that is the frame for the catch bag. AR-15s that have the sharply checkered forends will cut through the material and expose the spring wire to scratch the finish off the forend tube. If you don't cover that part of the tube with something like black duct tape, It will soon cut through the nylon material exposing the spring wire frame. A couple layers of the black duct tape could be put on the areas of the catcher instead, if you don't want the sticky tape on your rifle. This is what I had to do to save what was left of the shell catcher. If you have the sharply checkered forend tube and one of these shell catchers, you may want to check it out.

Thanks for the info,

I just bought one of these and had it out for a couple of trial runs, a couple of my brass had some mesh stuck to the necks, but since its new you probably have to get all the loose ends out.

The only thing I have trouble with is remembering to zip the bag back up!!! good thing it just piles the brass up on the bench.

How long have you had yours untill the spring wore though?
