Problems with LaRue Tactical mount on new DTech AR

Got my new DTech .17 Rem. AR yesterday!! Wooooh, Ooooh, she's a pretty one!!!! Don't have any pictures to post yet, but it's an A2 flattop, 22" fluted stainless MolyCoated barrel, DPMS lower, vented handguard, a Rock River tuned trigger, all camo coated in Max4 HD. Oooohhh, yeah!!

But I was disappointed when I tried to put a LaRue SPR 1.5 mount on the top rail. The cam levers would not rotate anywhere near closed. This scope/mount goes on and off my Bushmaster VS easily, so I know there's no problems with the mount. What I suspect is that the camo coating on the rail is actually thick enough to prevent the cams from closing. Scraping the camo off the spot where the cams close didn't solve the problem, either. LaRue mounts are extremely well made, but their close tolerances prevent mounting on this camo-dipped rail.

No big problem, as I was able to put a set of 1/2" BMAS risers with some Leupold QRW rings on the rail, even though I had to use a plastic-tipped hammer to tap them up and down the rail a few times. Anyone else ever had problems putting mounts on a camo-dipped rail? Anybody know a simple solution I'm not thinking of?

With a high precision mount like those produced by La Rue I am not surprised to hear that you are having problems with a camo dipped upper. I found that Burris Zee Rings would not fit on mine, they would not slip on the rail. The camo dipping is very cool, but it does not come without a few problems. .... I wonder if you could request that the scope rail not be dipped or coated? It seems easy enough, mask off the rail, dip the gun, remove the tape and let it set.

Have you used the supplied adjustment wrench to losen the levers? I have never had a LaRue mount that I could not adjust to fit any AR I Have had........You should be able to adjust it to fit, if not I would give Mark a call /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I thought about doing that, but since the mount currently fits perfectly on my Bushmaster VS, I didn't want to change it. I may have to make this adjustment when a new LaRue mount arrives. I had hoped to be able to easily switch one mounted scope back and forth between different rifles.

Appreciate it.

You would still have to re-sight each time wouldn't you? That would be to complicated for me. I want to pick up my rifle and go hunt with out having to re-sight.

That camo dip must be pretty thick. You do have to set the tension on the levers for your specific rail. Your right, you won't be able to switch between rifles without re-zeroing. If you have target turrets you can record the settings for each rifle, dial them in, and you will be very close. I hope that camo doesn't chip or peel under the pressure of the clamps and cause you a problem.

I just looked up the Picatinny Rail specs yesterday to check my scope mount. The slots are supposed to be 0.206" +0.008 tolerance (no minus). It may also be a problem with the recoil lugs not getting deep enough.

I know that LaRue mounts are known for a tight lockup, so I'm guessing that you're going to have to square and clean the slots with a needle file.
