I posted on this topic a short time ago that I really don't care (and it matters NOT whether I care) what you call them, but that I did start to get mildly irritated at the term "yodel dog".

One of my lates hobbies/habits has been to read old hunting related books.

The latest read, one of a series put out by Outdoor Life, should really enforce the understanding that regional names or pronounciations are not a sign of decaying morals, ignorance, or the enthusiasm of youth.

The author, from Idaho, referred to hunting "yodel dogs" and to having learned how to call after hunting with an M. Burnam and sons of Mineral Wells, Tx.

As I recall, this book was published in the 60's. The author was in his 60's or 70's at the time, and had experience hunting everything that Africa and North America had to offer. He certainly was not an easterner, young, or inexperienced.

Interesting reading and very interesting how things have changed in only a couple of generations. Not everything in the book is useful today - things like "even the hottest 22's are not considered adequate, appropriate calibers for teh golden eagle start with the 6mm's due to the extreme ranges normally encountered".......

My, how some things have changed, though certainly not the use of slang terms for a coyote.
