SCT, There is another accepted (though outdated) method of measuring group size, the string method. A string is used to measure each hole's distance from the center of the target. Each measurement is added and the total is the group's string. This was the conventional method of measurement in the 18th & 19th centuries. It is where the term shot string comes from.
