PSA For Iray Custom Reticle

Thought I'd make a post on getting my Iray Rico GH50R custom reticle set up.

I have no idea if what I went through pertains to any other, or all of the Iray models, but I hope this may help somebody.

When I bought mine last fall, I saw a reference to the availability of a custom reticle, so I called, & was told it's coming, but not available yet.

At the tail end of the season I still couldn't access the custom reticle, & was told it's not their issue, it's a 3rd party app, some could, some couldn't.

About a month ago, called again, but learned absolutely nothing, so I was still on my own.

My problem had progressed to, in order to pay for the custom reticle, I could never get it to open up to be able to pay.

I called my buddy, & his opened right up, so I considered going to his place and use his phone/app to pay & setup my scope.

I had deleted & installed the app 2-3 times, & it made no difference. So after looking around, I found that there's an Iray 2.0 app, so I downloaded that one.

Praise the Lord, it worked! I got to the custom reticle portion, set it up with my drops, & voila', a new reticle, no charge!!

The next afternoon, I set 2 targets out, one at 300, the other at 400. I shot 3 at each yardage, put my stuff in the truck, and retrieved the targets.

Never got a single shot on paper...WTF!! I had assumed the reticle would be zeroed, but obviously it wasn't.

Went home, check my inputs, which were correct, & decided to do it again the next day, starting at 100.

The following day I set targets at 100,200, & 300. 1st shot was with the reticle that the gun was sighted in with, perfect, an inch high.

2nd shot was with the custom reticle, perfect again, an inch high.

Moved it to 200, and it was 3" high. I moved it down 6 clicks, & hit dead center on the next shot.

Moved over to the 300 target, where it finally dawned on me the 300 drop was way too high. Abort and go home to reassess.

I opened the app again, & realized the drops were set for a 100 zero, when I changed it to 200, my drops doubled.

No wonder I missed the targets the day before.

So I set my correct drops for a 200 zero.

Originally, I did 200, 300,350 400, 450, & 500, but decided the +'s were too close together, so I went to 100 yard increments to 700. (dreaming big)

Back to my range the next day, targets at 100, 200, & 300. At 1 & 2, I shot 1 shot each with both reticles, dead on.

At 300, I shot 2 with the custom reticle, both 1 1/4" high into 7/8" !!! I quit.

Here's the original at 400 on 3X base mag:

I envy your 400 yard range, I only go to 200. I proceeded to miss a 270 yd shot with the ballistics calc last night, so checked my 200 yd zero and was 2" high and left. Grr. Not sure why it moved, only thing I can figure is I used the suppressor on another rifle for a range session last week.

My buddy has the same scope and built a reticle and it works out well for him.

Here's a daytime pic of my 400 yard spot:
