Pulsar Digex C50 and Iray Cabin 19?

Hey Guys,

I'm thinking about diving into the night hunting game. Mostly hunted during daylight. Does anyone have any experience with either of these two NV items?

I'm thinking that the Iray cabin 19 would be a good choice for scanning for predators, and the Pulsar C50 as my scope. I also want to use the Iray for deer, and maybe squirrel/coon hunting.

Thanks in Advance for any replies.

K9,

Unfortunately, I have zero experience with either of these devices. However, if on a tighter budget the idea of using thermal to scan and digital night vision to shoot is a recommendation I often give.

Kirsch,

Thanks for responding. I am a retired Law Enforcement officer, and don't have unlimited funds, but have always lived by the motto "Buy once / Cry once). I definitely want a thermal scanner to assist in deer hunting large cutovers (logged woods with 2-4 years regrowth).

I have a Foxpro Fusion and several custom hand calls, and have killed quite a few yotes in daylight hours. I have a wicked light and have killed a yote or two with that, but just don't get excited about night hunting with the red light. I think that a scanner and nv scope would be more like day time hunting.

Do you have any suggestions for a price range of no more than 4-$5000, but preferably less than $4000?

Hogster 25 & Hogster R35. That will get you in around 5,000, with a good enough image. I like less scanner, & more scope. Some here will disagree.

...I had a Pulsar 450 as a back up...It had an excellent picture and the new C50 has a higher def processor which in turn should give you a better picture.

The video playback is excellent.

No poi issues.

Many times where IR was not needed at night...moon and snow pending
I used my Wicked Lights "gun light" and purchased a 940um IR LED module.

I could ID and shoot just fine...I sold it a few years ago to a guy I hunt with and he loves it...and have witnessed him kill a good number of yotes...

What old cat suggests is a nice option. Both Bering units are small enough they can be scanners or scopes. If you don't shoot past around 200 yards, this would be a nice combo with the Vibe 25 and Vibe 35.

If I have to choose only one high quality thermal, I tend to side with the scanner for calling coyotes. The reason is that is what you are using 99% of the time, and the higher resolution typically results in a wider FOV and lower base magnification which typically is more suitable for scanner usage.

You could go with something like a Phenom 640 and then something like the C50 you mentioned, or a sightmark Wraith 2x or 3x. The problem is once you buy a good quality 640 resolution scanner, many no longer want to shoot with digital NV for very long. It only takes a few times where an animal is easy to see and totally killable, and you can't find them with digital NV, when a person makes a move to thermal all the way around.

You could go with a Vibe 25 or 35 and a C50. The Vibe can be a scope and/or a scanner.

I will send you a PM with my cell number, and we can discuss over the phone sometime.

...like Kirsch stated... the target will be much more difficult to acquire.... if it's not looking at you or there is brush, grass, corn... the IR still cast shadows which will make it tough in some scenarios.
...has happened numerous time with one of my hunting partners...we'll see them scanning and then he'll have some difficulty getting on target.
