Pulsar XP50 New Problems

Well... it's holding zero but last night I experienced three new problems.

1. When the unit nuked, the screen went solid grey. No picture, had to turn off and back on. Did it one time.

2. Several times when the unit nuked, it superimposed the previous image with the new image, did it three times, once while moving and scanning, once while barely moving. Again, had to turn off/on to get a good picture.

3. Had what I assume is a bad pixel. It has a dot opposite color, changes color when white or black hot, stays opposite.

Today when I went to try the auto fix, it was gone... great, but... now I have one on the other side of the screen that flickers occasionally.

Anyone have such issues?

Our night season has ended so I won't get a lot of time behind the scope for quite awhile. The grey screen happens on my Helion from time to time. If you just tap the power button, it normally takes care of it as a 2nd Nuc seems to free up the shutter. If it happens a lot, I would send it in.

Haven't had the other issues.

Same on my Helion and also a friends. That's also what we do. Have had the image thing also but NUCing also takes care of that. Not a frequent thing at this point but would be better of course if it didn't.

Sorry to hear this. Im sure u will, but i would for sure contact pulsar and make them aware of it. Hopefully its another software problem that they can fix via firmware update.

I really hate to be a pain in their butt... I suppose I'll monitor the issues very closely over the next month or so and if it continues or occurs with more frequency, I'll send it in.

At least this time I know NOT to buy my own insurance when I ship...lol.

1. My Helion has done that a couple of times and what Kirsch described is exactly how I remedied it too. Has only done it maybe 3 times so I haven’t been too concerned.

2. Haven’t seen that one on mine yet so can’t help.

3. I have two places in my display screen where I have what you are describing. It’s not a big deal but is something that shouldn’t be present on a $4000 optic. Now that I’m done for the season and back from vacation I was going to call the vendor who sold me my Helion and see about getting it fixed. They are a site sponsor so I’m thinking it will be taken care of with little hassle.

Uncle Jimbo if you have a pixel or multiple pixels that are not working, there is a repair utility in the Menu. You select the pixel itself along with each one around the damaged pixel and it supposedly fixes the issue. Pulsar has this utility which should fix exactly what you are describing. I have not had this issue at this point but others who have say this works.

Just in case I ever have to send something back, what do you mean by this?

Does your ATN have auto nuke?

When Sellmark sent me a UPS shipping label I asked UPS if the package was insured against loss, theft, damage etc. and they said no.

So I shipped & insured my thermal.

Sellmark later said despite no ins. on the package they would have covered me if it got lost, stolen, or damaged.

Issue #1 sounds like maybe the NUC shutter is sticking closed. Issue #2 sounds like the NUC shutter is sticking open. Issue #3 could also be related to the shutter, but it's hard to tell. Slow or flickering pixels can be difficult for an internal 1-point NUC to catch. They can come or go depending on core and/or target temperature.

In any case, if #1 and/or #2 keep happening, the unit should be sent in for eval. Next time either happens, note the ambient temp.

It was about 60 when it happened.
