The OP is asking about using the pvs14 in front of the Obj. (skypup) answered the question great with 'Collimation' . of the projected image you are looking at in the PVS14 and for the majority NOD's is way far from close to a POA zero set on your day scope in front of the Obj.
I am FAR from being an expert of NV and am only on my 3rd pvs14, and I have only logged 600+ hours on the last unit I am using now .
you Can use it in front of the Obj. of day scope, and you Can See a projected image in the dayscope of PVS14 . but Your POI will be several inches off your aim . I (personally) really don't like even useing the PVS14 as weapons mounted anyway because of recoil mitigation usually being sub-par from a dedicated clip-on .
