Question about EOTECH

I just got my first EOTECH holographic weapons sight On the UPS truck today (Model 551). I got it to put on a lightweight shorty AR that I am building. However, something does not seem right. When I look through it the 65 MOA ring and the 1 MOA dot are both fuzzy looking. Is there some type of adjustment for the focus or is something wrong with this new sight??? I'm probably just missing something out of not knowing what I'm doing with it, but something is definatly wrong. Thanks!!!

You have to play with the brightness setting. If the reticle is too bright, it will appear fuzzy. The reticle is at its most crisp at the lowest setting possible for the conditions.
My experience only, yours may vary.

Do you wear glasses? If so, put them on. If not, you need some. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I did the same thing, took my glasses off and thought "What the...this thing is blurry as crap"
I finally figured out it's the same as looking at an object 30 or so yards away, if you need glasses to see 30 yeards, you need glasses to see the reticle.
Or maybe yours is screwed up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

There is no focus adjustment.

edit: Yes, turn the brightness down. I found when target shooting, it's most accurate if you can just see the dot on the target (100 yards).

I have been contemplating buying one. Isn't the brightness supposed to be self adjusting? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

No, you have an "up" and "down" arrow key to adjust the reticle brightness. Push either to turn on and both to turn off.

I have a couple Eotechs and like them quite well. They are nearly ideal for quick target acquisition and would work great for a calling rifle out to maybe 200 yds.
I've played with the brightness settings on mine and no matter what you do it will not be a crisp dot like on a regular scope, it will always be a bit "fuzzy", atleast to my eyes. They are not made for pin point aiming.
I've not looked through a Trijicon but can imagine they will give you a more precise aiming point, for the price, they better.

I love my EOTECH!
Here's the deal.
In bright sunlight, leave it on low setting. It should be crisp and clear.
When the light is low, turn it up a little. The higher you turn it up, the fuzzier it will be.
Mess with it a little and you'll see what I mean.
Standard procedure when you get your first one is to crank it up to see how bright it is. It's BRIGHT!...but fuzzy.
The lower the power (for the conditions)the finer the dot will be and you will have a more accurate reticle to take your shot.
Mess with it for a while and you will love it. the trick is to get out and burn some rounds with it and get on target.
I hope that makes sense.
i have a very strange setup on my coyote gun that most of my friends cant hit anything with, but is deadly on close/fast moving shots for me.
You just have to get out and get used to it. It will be second nature for you in nothing flat.

Nope...That's an ACOG

I have two EOTech sights, a 512 and a 552. Both are very good. I like the 1 MOA dot.
The guys above have nailed to answer to your question.
One thing for someone contemplating buying one, the 511/512 series are smaller than the 551/552 series. I like the 512 on a small sporter better than the 552, which is a natural for an M1A type rifle.

Has any one used the Bushnell version? I understand that they make Eotech and wonder if there is anyone that has tried them. They are 100-150 cheaper. Sorry I dont mean to high jack the thread but it seems related.

Wackmaster..I think you are on track but believe EOTech makes the Bushnell series. Could be and often are wrong onsuch things but if memory serves me the EOTech was a slightly stouter version to meet MilSpecs.

I have the Bushnell on a CAR15 and love it..be sure that you get the one that uses AA batteries unless you own stock in a battery mfg.

EOTECH is the military/law enforcement division of Bushnell. I contacted Bushnell about the problem you are talking about and it was explained to me exactly like everyone described. The only other thing that was said to me to help clear up the image was like all red dot sights are SUPPOSED to be utilized, you look thru the sight and superimpose the reticle on the target. If you concentrate on the reticle, it will be blurry. Try it that way and don't concentrate so much on the reticle. I tried it and it worked alot better.

I have a Bushnell Holosight which is the same or similar to the Eotech 511. It's mounted on an 15" Encore in 460 S&W Magnum that holds up fine against is recoil. I have a friend that has a Eotech 511 and they are nearly identical.

I have the bushnell low profile holosight which uses AAA batteries on my 12 g turkey gun. I absolutely love the sight and has held up extremely well through 2 seasons even with the heavy 3.5 inch load recoil.

There's nothing wrong with it. It just has to do with how bright you set it. Just remember to adjust the brightness before you start calling at EVERY stand. You want it just bright enough so that you can find it alright, but not so low that you struggle to find it quickly.

EOTech designed the sight that Bushnell now makes and sells. Bushnell has it made in Taiwan. I'm sure there is a licensing agreement involved between Bushnell and EOTech.
So, EOTech is not involved in the manufacture of the sight, but any design changes to the Bushnell sight would involve EOTech engineering.

Totch, I have a 512 that I got at the last 3-gun match and the factory specs state that it is supposed to be set at level 4 when you first turn it on (pretty dim for daylight)and I have to crank it up a little most of the time. Your's may be set at a different level when it comes on and would be a factory problem..., or maybe mine just has weak batteries.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Mine doesn't start distorting until I get up to about level 7-8 in most cases.

I mounted mine on my 'shorty' and finally got it zeroed at 100 yds and the dot sits right on top of my front sight post.

I've shot with cheaper, and lighter weight, red dots (handgun) for years and I'm used to the "both eyes open" style of shooting.
