do I need to have a license or permit to hunt coyotes and jack rabbits in nevada? If so, how much is it going to cost me?

what if I want to transport a coyote back across state lines? Is this allowed and if not what do I need besides a faster truck?

You can transport accross state lines, you only need a license if you plan on selling the fur and then you need a trapping license.

Tap, a nevada Fish and Game Warden told me a non resident can shoot coyotes all day long in Nevada, but if you planned on even touching them you damn well better have a non-resident furbearer license !

I have heard that too, But thats not how the regs read.
Taken from the NDOW site.
Quote:
Coyotes are an unprotected species in Nevada. They can be hunted by both resident and non-residents in the state without a hunting license.

However, if you are selling the fur, or trapping coyote, you will need a trapping license.

Additionally, special regulations may exist regarding the use of firearms for all the general public, depending on the county in which you will be hunting. A summary of some of those regulations can be found by scrolling down the page.

Utahdogger, how about all the out of state guys that attend the World hunt? You know they are bringing back coyotes.

If the Fish and Game wanted to, they would just have to attend the check-in and send everybody to jail.

The question should be, how do they prove they are for sale? Maybe if all the coyotes are cased? But then again that could be for personal use.

I really think you need to talk to that Warden again. I remember when Nevada didn't have stupid rules lol.....Good Hunting

Well, a friend of a friend got caught at the border, East of Montello, he had several coyotes in his truck, both Nevada and Utah dogs, the Nevada Game Warden cited him for not having a non-resident furbearers license, $150.00 fine, you go ahead and bring em across state lines if you want to, I sure ain't gonna !

We went to the worlds torney in elko last year. We talked to a warden on site out hunting. He did not have a problem with us taking the dogs [we had some already and he knew we were turning them in to the torney,he never got out of the truck]. Granted we were in town and not a trans state transport. It does say that you "sell" the coyote to require a trappers license. 150$ is cheaper than 200$ license. Anyway, more opinion on this would help keep some of us out of trouble? thanks fellow dog slayers.

At the time he got the $150.00 fine, the license was $150.00, kinda ironic huh ? Not worth the risk to me, if I was going to make several trips over there each year, and plan on selling the fur, I'd sure get whatever license is required, not worth the possibility of a fine or losing my truck and equipment over !

I shot NDOW an email to get an offical answer and this is what they replied:

"In Nevada you do not need a hunting license or trapping license to possess coyotes. If you are going to sell the fur you do need a trapping license. If you trap them you need a trapping license. Usually if you import lawfully harvested wildlife into another state, you are legally able to bring it into the other state. There are exceptions, such as it is illegal to bring a lawfully killed mountain lion into California. I would check with the state you are bringing the coyotes in to, to be sure you are not breaking their laws. I hope this helps."
