question about pa laws for decoy, help please

It can not be electronic or motorized. They are pretty touchy about bears. You can not even use sents that mimic food. There are sents on the market that have the essence of rotting flesh. I call the Game Comm when I have a question. I dont think a decoy would be productive in Pa bear season. Bears dont have the best eyesight. E-Calls are not legal for bears. The three days of the season, guys are driving and walking. I think any bear that is up is not gonna be worried about a place to eat as much as a place to hide. My buddy has great success with a deer decoy for deer in archery and rifle season. (Private ground). He puts it in the middle of a field along a ditch and shoots prone with a rifle under the decoys legs (Crop damage permitts in MD).IMO

ok thanks alot, how about the use of calls, such as a mouth blown cub distress. my grandfather used one in his back yard (not to kill the bear, just to see how it worked) during the summer and a BIG bear came RUNNING in. think of the biggest black bear youve seen in PA, the bear i saw that day probably made your bear loo like a puppy. at leat 400 lbs. im guessing it was a male looking for a meal. with results like that, theres no doubt in my mind that those calls dont work, and ive heard alot of people that thnk they dont. i wish i had a pic to show you. replies are app.

If you can not use a scent that mimics a food source for bears, I doubt if you can use a sound that mimics a food source. I have no doubt that a call for bears would work. They are only legal to hunt for three days in Penna. There is about as much human activity then as there is the first three days of Deer season. I do not think that a bear would make it to your call if it had to come any distance on public ground it would either be dead or spooked before it got to you. Why take a chance on getting a stranger a bear? If you hunted a state such as West Virginia were the season runs for about three months, you would probably be on to something. The guys I know that kill bears consistantly almost every year drive for them, in thick hollows. I dont hunt bears but I get into the woods at least one of the days to scout for rifle season becuase of the pressure in the woods. The pressure is not gonna make a good calling scenerio.

i understand what your saying and i thought the same, but i hunt on private land. and on this land there are only four hunters and our stands arent far apart. its also a BIG piece of property, and every deer season i see at least a bear every time, this past year i had a chance at a nice bear about 75 yds but i didnt have a tag for tat extended season. so..

There is nothing you can use for hunting if it has not been approved by the COMMISSION! That being said, the technical rule is sometimes overlooked because the wardens know better than to try enforcing certain things, or just don't know if the COMMISSION has approved it or not, since lots of guys are using something newer that they saw in a magazine or sport shop. MUCH is up to warden discretion so MUCH could be argued in court. How much money do you have????
