Just a question for all the hunters here....

How many of you carry a fanny pack/ daypack, with some type of medical kit? No i dont mean a kit that will make the local emergency room green with envy... I mean a basic first aid kit, for minor cuts , an boo-boo's.

I keep one in my fanny pack/daypack , or in my hunting coat pocket.

Inquiring minds want to know....LOL

I carry just a few basic things with me in my pack. Mostly just some sort of bandage's, gauge pads, and tape. But I do carry one that like you say, would make an E.R. look bad, in my truck anytime I'm out fishing or hunting. I also have the same kit in my truck, in my boat when fishing.

A fag bag with bandaids?? i am sorry i couldnt resist. i know i hate those scratches like the rest but sounds like to much trouble for a scratch. i think that everyone should have a good first aid kit in there truck.

I carry one in a back pack with just the basics like bandaids, tape and gauze. another inportant thing i started carrying is one of these..iguess you call them hobo stoves you know the ones you make youselfe from an empty tuna can and wax i actually saw a thread in here about one awhile back and now i carry one all the time when im hunting and boy do they ever put out alot of heat!!

The only thing I have with me when I hike in for calling or prairie dog shooting is a bandaid /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I do have a very "basic" medical kit in my pickup.

I carry the basics in first aid and it has come in handy a time or two. And I always carry fire in my day pack.

I carry a light first aid kit in a backpack. Main essential I carry besides bandaids is Krazy Glue. Some people would not believe the coterizing effects of that stuff and let me tell ya, it works.

My first aid kit is mixed throughout my pack with general, multi use items. For example I carry paper towel folded tightly into a zip lock bag. Can be used for T.P., gauze, makeshift bandaids, wiping off after field dressing. I carry a roll of electrical tape that can be used for dozens of things including, Taping a paper towell bandaid towell bandaid on, back up arm gaurd for you archers to hold a bulky sleve out of the way,on and on. I always wear a belt which can serve as a sling for a broke arm, or a tourniquet, even a deer drag. I carry a small bottle with alieve for pain, excedrin for a bad headache, and phillips milk oh magneesia pills for all stomach ailments that can arise. I always carry a bandanna in my pocket, and letherman wave on my belt, and an emergency whistle on a lanyard. When I hunted caribou I carried a needle and thread, in case of a bad cut, but now I carry super glue instead. It also can be used in many emergency situations. I always carry a magneesium fire starter just in case. You just never know what may happen to yourself, or someone you happen upon, be perepared, is a great motto.

I carry a decent first aid kit in my truck and 1 in my atv. I am also certified in basic first aid, infant child and adult cpr, and aed (automatic electric discharge) the portable heart start.

I always carry a but pack with water, cell phone, range finder etc.

All my vehicles have first aid kits in them, and I'm never that far away.

Kinda depends on where I'm going. I usually have a bandaid or two and some paper towels in whatever pack I have. I also have a 'sure enough' paramedic bag that has stuff in it I hope I never have to use!! I don't usually carry that with me, but I may have it in the truck or boat.

People can say what they want, but I don't carry my stuff to take care of little scratches and punctures...I've needed my kit before to patch up everything from the worst case of scope eye I've ever seen, to finding out what happens when people don't use knives the right way..etc.

BTW-superglue is awesome!! Instant stitches..just don't get it where you don't want it!

A few years ago the wife and I came up to an accident where a driver lost controll of the family van which ended up on it,s side. Each of the parents and three kids had injuries. I have always keep small first aid kits in my vehicles, backpack, and fanny packs but I found then worthless when I tried to help them. NO 4X4, 6X6 inch sterial pads or compress .no rolls of gauze bandages or adhesive tape. I now have a 8X14X4 inch first aid kit of the type sold to industries aid stations. It cost over $100 but I never wont come on to a accident and not be able to help.

I carry a kit in my truck and a few odds and ends in my pack. If I were out west or in really remote area I would carry more, why?

8 years ago my dad made the what not to do list for the Oklahoma hunters ed program, he went out to check a tree stand without telling anyone he was going, he lived alone and would not have been missed for a day or so, he was tightening his stand when a limb broke, he fell 20 feet to the ground with only a rock to break his fall. He managed to crawl to his 4 wheeler after he came to and then to his truck, he drove 30 miles on cruise control with a pizza box supporting his back, x-rays showed he had broken his back and his ankle. It could have turned out alot worse and we'll never know how he accomplished all he did but he did.

We now take safety a little more serious and try to be as prepared as we can. Yes I still hunt by myself quite a bit but someone knows where I'm at and when I'll be back.

I see alot of us carry some sort of first aid kit into the field!.... I keep a small kit with me at all times in the field.. but in my truck there is a medic bag that can handle everything from a minor scrape, to broken limbs, GSW, full arest , an yes i do carry a AED, complete airway kit,and splint system .

The reason i asked this little question, is that 2 yrs ago i was out phesant hunting with some firends who had both flushing and point dogs...We were all having a good time enjoying the hunt, when one of the dogs was working out ahead of us....when all of a sudden......BANG!!!!! som DUMBASS. shot the dog... well to make a long story short... the dog ( black lab) too a unhealthy dose of no#6 shot in the hip an lower abdomine area... If it was not for having some first aid suppys.. ( gauze pads, abd pads, rolls of gauze.< gauze makes a good muzzle in a emergency> that poor dog might not have made it.... the guy who shot the dog did offer to pay all medical expenses, an admitted he was shooting at the sound, not making positive id of his target...
You just never know when you might be put in this position, an its comforting to kow you have the supplys at hand to make a diffrence!...

Thanks

Fanny Pack containing-- first aid kit, waterproof matches, two space blankets, 30' of parachute cord, small mag-lite and a couple of protein bars. If for some reason I wind up spending the night in the boondocks, I intend to be comfortable. The whole works only comes in at around two pounds. I find this sufficient for around here, for trips into big country like you guys in the west have available my stuff looks a lot more like Jay Johnson's. When I was a kid (a long long time ago) we used to go on what we called survival hikes for three to five days. Taking the bare minimum with us and attempting to live off of the land. They were a blast although I must admit there were times when we were a bit hungry (really hungry). It's a good learning experience.
