question for skinning animals

I am completely new to predator hunting. My question is about skinning the tail on fox, coyote, raccoon, etc... Do you slice the tail down the middle to work it off the bone, or do you pull it out without slitting the length of the tail? I am going to try to tan my own hides for something to try, if this matters or not on how to do it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The tail ends up being slit clear to the tip anyway. But, if you slit it down the bone, it makes it more difficult to cut from the tail bone.

You need to slit the tail part way then fold it back to its original position and strip it from the bone with your fingers or a tail stripper. After that you finish cutting it to the tip.

Thanks, I bought a video to help me. Thought i should know what I am doing a little so I dont ruin any fur, practice is probably the best thing though.
