Question for the TSS guys

Well here up in the frigid North its been very hard to find any TSS rounds for coyotes but the other day I found these on the shelf of a hardware store.

Bear in mind up until now the only TSS I have seen anywhere is a few 410 and 20 gauge loads for turkey.
I know with no doubt the 3 shot would be a hammer on coyotes but not sure on 9's
Figured I would ask the experts who use tss regularly if this would be worth the high price tag to use on coyotes.
 
Yeah, those are duck loads inspired to attract the hunter with that big red TSS printed on the box, lol.

As far as #9’s, while I haven’t exclusively gone after coyotes with them, I have shot quite a few and hogs too with 9’s out of my 20ga while turkey hunting. All dropped and died on the spot. Max distance was about 40yds.
 
From what I have seen from shooting many coyotes with lead BB shot I want at least 3.70" of 20% gel penetration to reliable break down or kill coyotes. TSS #9 and steel #3 shot will not make good coyote loads.

From KPY Shotshell Ballistics

1450 fps TSS #9 shot gets 3.70" of 20% gel penetration at 14.4 yards.
1450 fps Steel #3 shot gets 2.20" of 20% gel penetration at 18.9 yards.
1450 fps Steel BB shot gets 3.70" of 20% gel penetration at 13.5 yards.

1300 fps Lead BB shot gets 3.70" of 20% gel penetration at 46.1 yards.
1200 fps TSS #3 shot gets 3.70" of 20% gel penetration at 89.8 yards.

There is this called "online shopping." They will deliver right to your frozen north door.
 
I think a full load of TSS 9 would be okay, shooting a coyote in the face at maybe even 40 yards, as he stalks a turkey decoy or whatever and you place a careful shot with a dense pattern up his nose. My coyote shotgunning is largely comprised of shooting at the south end of northbound coyote running flat out and zig zagging through sage brush. It's kind of like wing shooting huge doves on the ground that are going behind and coming out from cover a couple times a second. 9's would fall flat on their face. Period.

And I even prefer a wider pattern, than most who comment on their preference. Which is more than fine, we all have our own conditions to adapt to. Next to penetration at distance, the ability to put so many pellets in the area I want them, even with a wider than "turkey" pattern, is one of the huge benefits of TSS.

Yeah I hunt with a shotgun and know how it can go. Here in Canada there just isn't enough coyote hunters to warrant suppliers bringing in coyote loads. I have been getting by with Hornady coyote loads which are the only dedicated coyote shotshell I can find. Now and then I get lucky and find old heavy goose loads that work well. I have heard the reports from TSS shooters and have been searching high and low for some up here and this is the first 12 gauge load iv seen

Exactly…I should have clarified my statement. Just sorta thought everyone would get the picture of a coyote stalking the turkey sound (me) so shots are pretty much facial reconstruction.
