I am a little confused as I know little about silencers. My dealer says the best deal going for my needs is the Huntertown Arms American Kesteral 556. He says it's great bang for the buck because it is completely user serviceable, gives good noise reduction, is a lot cheaper than most silencers on the market, has a lifetime "anything but stupid" warranty, and will work on anything from.223 on down. The question is, is .204 Ruger considered "on down"? He couldn't answer that. He said he would try to reach Huntertown Arms, but they can take a while to get back to him. I know I wrote them an email and haven't heard back yet.
Yes, we know that .204 is a smaller diameter than .223, but the dealer correctly pointed out that .204 produces a lot more gas than .223. He said it would be safe, but would likely be ineffective and might cause premature erosion of the baffles. I am not overly concerned about premature wear, since the design of this can allows the baffles to be replaced, but if it would happen like in a few hundred rounds that wouldn't be acceptable. Huntertown lists the supported calibers for the 556 and they include .223 .22 Hornet, .22 Mag, .22lr .17 HMR but it doesn't say anything about .204 Ruger currently on their site. I did find an old post online to a forum from one of their techs that said it did .204, so now I am confused. Did they change it? I have seen other posts online that anything rated for .223 will do .204, but I am concerned with this little economy model, and also you know about expert advise on the internet from one source. If I had several sources I would feel better.
Thanks for the help.
