questions about calling

Hello, I am fairly new here and haven't varmint hunted in a long time and have a question or two. How long do you call for initially? Do you call continuously or stop and start? Normally I start off low and cal for about 2-3 minutes and then wait . I get progressively louder the next sequence. After that i vary the tone and length. Am I doing OK or do I need to change tactics. I have only hunted a couple of times this last month without much success. I am using a open reed mouth cal primarily but also have a tape setup as well.. Steve
 
I normally call about a 1 minute or so at first. Usually I call softly at first unless I am in very open terrain. I then increase my volume until I have called 3 or 4 sequences. Then at the end I get softer with my volume. Each stand is around 20 minutes with 5 or 6 sequences.Watch for coyotes circling downwind. Good Luck!
