i use a really high pitched hand call and flutter my tounge to make that trilling noise coons make, and you can make a coon squall. Other guys i know use coon puppy sounds with awesome success also coon fights.
distress calls- high pitched bird sounds. raspy cottontail. occasionally grey fox pup
there was a pretty good arcticle on night calling coons in the latest predator xtreme. and a good day calling one in Predator hunting.
I bought the Johnny Stewart 4 tape pack for calling raccoons. It has raccoon squall, fight with fox, raccoon pup distress and fight with bird I think. I have only done it 3 times since I just bought it. Can't wait for it to work.
We usually start out with Kit distress #87 for about 45 seconds and if nothing shows then Kit over bird #88 and finish up with #89 Sow fight or #81 Brawling Bandits. This is the sequence we were using Saturday on these. Three were called in the day and the last four just after dark.
I didn't know that day-time calling would work, but when I went out with Steve and Todd on Satuday, I was quite impressed how it pulled the big boars right out of den trees. Two were called out of den trees a minute apart at 2:30 in the afternoon!
Another impressive outing on coon, of course when you're talking to them with the Bandit and your coon sounds it's almost an unfair advantage /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif. I'm still waiting to get my Bandit bloody which hopefully will be soon now that I've gotten rid of my cold.
Go To: Store / Lights / Nite Lite® Rechargeable Lights @ huntsmart.com it is the Wizard 2 Spotlight package they are pretty hard to beat for $69.99 + $6.99 for the red pop cover.
How long are you getting on a charge? I have a Prowler box light I use for coon hunting, no spot light but the high side of the head will light up a large crop field. I only get 4 stands and it is given' it up.
When you get here we can do some coon hunting too, man we got coons as big as dogs here, ask ol Rooster Feather about the size of these things. heck I don't know weather to shoot em or train 'em to retrieve ducks.
We can call coons for several hours on a charge but we do not leave them on continuously as a shield. We hit the light when we hear them coming or scan the trees.
