Radio Shack Power Horn

I have a Scorpion and I want to buy an external speaker. Was going to get the SP-55 but saw a speaker at radio shack called the power horn. It uses 25 watts, 50 max. 8ohlms Half the price and lighter.

Have any of you guys used this speaker and with what results?

I have one and used it with my 416, the amp in the 416 didnt drive the horn enough to make a discernable differance, I havent tried it on the new FX5 yet, but I will let you know,,

I bought one from Radio Shack (Power Horn Cat. No. 40-1440 8 ohms 25 W RMS 50 W Max), soldered a mini mono plut to the wires, and plugged it into my Scorpion. It works great in those conditions where you need more volume.

The freq response probably isn't as good as the built in speaker, but it sounds pretty good to me.

OK I just went out, and hooked the Powerhorn to the FX5.
My ears told me that when I had the front speaker off, and used only the powerhorn, then changed back to the front speaker only, the volumne sounded higher on the built in speaker.. However, when I put both on together... "Grab the earplugs" It was very loud! Its not a scientific test with decible reading gear, but I was astonished as to how loud it was.. Ive never heard the SP-55 speaker, so if you want to try the powerhorn for the cost, it may help.. I think with wire, plug, and Horn it was about $35 or so. Im sure the Foxpro speaker would be better suited, but for added volumne, the Power horn will most likely work.

I hooked the JSP horn spearker to my Scorpion and it worked fine, Then I order a SP55 and beleive me it isa a lot better
be careful how much watts to use I dont think they are rated for over 15 Watts

I did the same thing. When I got it home I hooked it up to the scorpion. I turned it up to 40 and blew the speaker. So I bought the SP55. It does a great job!!
