Radio Shack Setup

OK, I understand the speaker, mini amp and player, be it cassette tape, MP3 or CD. My question is regarding the connections between the three.

Are they connnected via a stereo patch cord (the cords with two male connectors, one red, one white), or do you have to Mickey Mouse it together with speaker wire and electrician's tape?

I'd like to use a CD player, but other than the headphone jack, I don't think the portable models come with audio outputs anymore. At least my Sony Discman ESP2 doesn't.

Please help if you can.

Thanks,

It depends...

The Red-WHite phono plugs you describe are also known as RCA plugs

You can get a headphone-to-RCA's cable at RS.

You can get little RCA plug-to-1/8 mini Mono adapters (no wire) that will connect 1 channel (left or Right, red or white) to the little amplifier without splicing/taping wires. Adapter is like 1.25 at RS...

the source sounds are mono anyway and the single channel gives plenty of power to the amp.

If your a real adventurer, you could hook up two litle amps (one left and one right) and two speakers by simply getting another adapter, amp, and speaker. (no it would be TWO SPEAKER, but not "stereo", so dont anybody go there. haha if youre confused on what true stereo is search this forum for overly lengthy discussions and descriptions)

Some of the WAV editing programs will let you record a different sound on the left channel and on the right channel for the same track and then you burn it to cd, tape or MP3 from there...

Speaker connection... Yup the horns come "Bare-Wire" so get your wire strippers and 3M tape. I just took a Male 1/8 mono to Male 1/8 mono 3 ft extension cord and cut off one jack with about 8" of wire. splice from there....

You can get just the jack component at RS and try to rig that up but if you dont solder it it comes loose or the wires "fray" and ground-out in the plug and you get some wild noises and things go bad.

Here are the part numbers from my receipt
Speaker/amplifier #277-1008
1/4 -1/8 mini adapter #274-0366
mini plug cable #420-2420
The adapter goes on my JS speaker. If you buy your speaker at NAPA(for 9.99 it is a cb external speaker) you will have to check and see if it has the mini plug, 1/8 " or the 1/4 " plug. You use the headset plug in to go to the amp from the Cassette(cheap model) and it doesn't have the rca type plugs. The amp has external speaker hook-up and this is where you plug your speaker in. Turn on and have fun.... James L.

Hey folks, thanks for all the info on the Radio Shack caller. Just finished putting mine together. Seems to work great! New to the predator hunting scene, this affordable caller has allowed me to get started!
