RainShadow Cougar Vocalizations?? ??

There's a call maker in my area - Steve Tormala - who operates a website, makes predator calls, will "guide" you on a cougar hunt, and has .MP3 or .WAV cougar vocalizations on his website.
He seems very successful at getting cats. I have no reason to believe he is not a quality man, operating a quality business.

But...I'm wondering if anyone has his cougar vocalizations on their Foxpro (or other electronic callers) and if anyone has has success??

The State of Oregon, and its endless wisdom, outlawed hunting cats with dogs some years ago- but we can bait them. As such, elk and deer populations are dropping rapidly. I want to start targeting them when I get out in the woods.

Looking forward to any feedback - thanks!!

Jakie,

Steve is exactly what he says he is. He has some great cougar sounds, and has probably had more success in calling lions with sounds than anyone in recent memory.

He knows what he's doing.

Also, if Steve wished to sell those cougar sounds, they would probably line up to buy them. But in order for call maker companies to get the sounds, they would have to buy them from Steve.

Steve is a first rate guy to do business with in my book.

Hope this helps.

Barry

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the feedback, confirming my belief Steve. I'm sure that if I bought the sounds he's selling, that there's no problem loading them onto the Foxpro.

Still looking for feedback from someone who has the calls and your feedback on them. It's $50 for the MP3 and his "how to" DVD.

Thanks Barry. I appreciate it. I work hard to be the guy I say I am.

Jakie, while I wish I had more testimonials to back up my sounds, but truth be told, they're doing really, really well. I'm very happy with their success, and I'm excited about the future.

They've been out for 3 months and I have several call-ins chalked up to them already, including one of my own.

My whistles have been out for over a year and I have several call-ins chalked up to them too.

I'm building a web page that's not just testimonials, but also a catalog of Cougar Call-In stories.

http://rain-shadow.com/cougar_callin_stories.htm

The first 10 are using my sounds and calls. The rest are others, even surprises. There's close to 35 now, and growing every week.

Feel free to judge for yourself, I have lots of customers, and I'm totally open to their criticism.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Steve. I didn't see that testimonial page the last time I was on your website. I just spent the last hour + reading the testimonials and watching DVR'd Olympics.

You'll be hearing from me soon.

Thanks again.

Read up on the Oregon game laws, because I believe it's illegal to use any type of moving decoy for cougar.
Page 27 of the regs.

Just FYI.

Quote: I'd never heard that before.

Yeah, they've got it buried in there pretty deep. The tag's now good for the entire year, though, so that's progress. You need to harvest the reproductive tract from all female cats, too, and turn it in to ODFW.

I think either. I don't know anyone who JUST uses vocals, so it's hard to say. Every stand seems to start with distress, or incorporate it in some fashion or other.

I do ALMOST all vocals when I know for sure I'm on a hot stand. Otherwise I've got a minimum of 10 minutes of distress to start in case a Bobcat or Coyote want to show.

I use very little distress later in the stand, I'm trying to incorporate more, but usually it's all vocals during the last 45 minutes.

The calls were actually alot easier to load on my foxpro than I thought they were gonna be. I had a little bit of help though, the problem I was having was the number sequence.

Not sure if you bought the sounds or not but I can tell you that they are the cleanest (and best) cougar sounds I have found. I own two or three cassettes of the old standbys and Rainshadow's are far superior. I had no problem loading them onto my FP Scorpion. I did not get a chance to use them this last fall, but will in 2010.

A couple years ago I bought a cougar tuned hand call and CD from RS and later that year I happened to exchange vocals with a cougar. I was deer hunting when I heard the cat vocalize near a recent gut pile. I called back and it answered (and the deer I was watching took off). I replied again and so did the cat. It was near dark and I was not able to see the cat or get it to answer a third time.

Steve is the real deal and would not do you wrong.
