Range Finders

I am looking for my first RF and was wondering
what would be a good model for around $250.
I am looking for one that reads out to around
500 yards accuratly. If that is even reasonable
for that price?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Bushnell Yardage Pro 800 compact. Also has a rain mode and a less than 150 feature that somewhat ignores thin brush and ranges your target. Reads 500 yards easily, In fact I just stepped out on the porch and ranged a window on a house at 736 yards.

t/c223encore.

I have the Bushnell Yardage Pro 800 compact also. It's a great rangefinder for the money. It is a little bulky though but has never failed me and should read anything at 500 yards easily.

I also have the Bushnell Yardage Pro 800 compact. Works decent for me. Occasionally I've had problems ranging a praire dog thats at 300-400 yards when on a real flat terrain with nothing to bounce the ranging signal off. But I'd expect that problem with almost any range finder.

Own a Yardage Pro Scout. Very small and easy to use. Only problem has been in low light.(while bowhunting) That may be true of most of them.

I'll give another vote to the Bushnell Yardage Pro Compact 800. It's in your price range (249.99 at WalMart) and it easily ranges beyond 500 yards while groundhog hunting and checking out field edges, diversion ditches, fence lines etc.

Thanks for the info.
I picked up the Bushnell Yardage Pro Compact 800.
Can't wait to go out to my uncle's farm to test it out this weekend on some groundhogs.

Becareful of the highter magnifications. The 8X models are very hard to hold steady enough to range deer size animals. I sold my Bushnell for that reason and bought a Nikon Monarch 800 (6X) at OpticZone for around $290.
