Rattler TS25 Coyote

Last night I stayed at the shack, hoping the coyote from three nights ago would return. He did, and I was able to test the new AGM Rattler TS25 thermal scope. I used my trusty Dtech 6x45 shooting a 70 gr. Blitz King which dropped the coyote on the spot.

So far I am pleased with the Rattler, though it is a bit different than the Pulsar Apex I have had for the last three years. The menu is a bit different, but overall I like it. The image quality is good, though I noticed last night that, due to a greater field of view, the scope's brightness was affected by the horizon and ambient light. When I scanned further down the hill the view got darker and more crisp. The Pulsar does the same, but to a slightly lesser degree, probably due to a tighter field of view. I mainly purchased this scope to serve as a scanner, but wanted to get some time behind it as a rifle scope. I was fortunate to have this coyote return soon after finding the bait.

The 70 gr. Blitz King did not exit. It broke the offside shoulder which could account for it staying inside the coyote. This next photo shows the entry on the right side.

No Exit as you can see in this photo.

204, Yes, it records internally. Have to hook the scope to a computer to extract the video. One thing I noticed is the video doesn't fill the screen like my Pulsar Apex and ATN 4k does. It appears to be a different format. The view to my eye was better than the video shows, not quite as bright.

I have found pros and cons with the scope, like most other scopes have. Overall I like it though, and it will serve a dual purpose for both as a scanner and a rifle scope.

If I am correct, your Hogster has an external port for attaching a DVR for recording, at least I think I am right.

Always enjoy your post and stories from the shack!

You have went through a lot of work and expense on your bait/cabin and it actually shocks me you don't shoot a suppressor. I'm guessing you have time for earpro but I strongly recommend a suppressor, not just for safety but it can really really help you with multiple coyotes and if follow up shots are needed!

Kino, I would love a suppressor and maybe that will happen. I guess the main thing that has kept me from it is all the red tape involved.

6mm, it really ain't that bad, the waiting is by far the worst part and the ATF literally just started a new program to speed up the process. If you get on it now you will 99% have it for next season and if you keep waiting it never will!!

I don't know where you are but surely there is a knowledgeable dealer in your state and if there isn't Silencer Shop is pretty good and will walk you through and send your can to one of their dealers in your state.

I cannot stress enough of the advantages of a suppressor and I promise that not ONE of these guys on here that run one would consider going without now!

You guys may talk me into a suppressor yet, but finances need to be in order first, especially after just getting the Rattler. Now to the most asked question on the forums - which suppressor to get? Probably the largest caliber it would be used on is the 6.5 Grendel.

One of the nice things about using a can is that you can most definitely hear the wallop of the bullets impact, and know that you connected.

IMO there are a lot of good suppressors out there and a few really good ones. For me, I'd look no further than a 6.5 TBAC Ultra 7. One of the very best, in all categories, 6.5 suppressors you can get. Give TBAC a call and they'll be happy to answer any and all questions you may have.

I'll give you the brutal honest answer here before the fanboys jump in, THERE ARE LOTS OF GOOD QUALITY MADE SUPPRESSORS TODAY, PERIOD......

Since its your very first can I recommend a 30cal. You may loose a decibel or two vs. going caliber specific but you gain so much more in flexibility and I assure you that once you start shooting suppressed you will want it on everything.

I'd look for something all titanium, around 7" in length and something that uses an attachment method like the TOMB or some type of a taper mount. Direct thread is 60s technology so don't go there.

Brand wise I'd look at Suppressed Armament Systems Reaper MX (SAS), CGS Hyperion, Dead Air Nomad, Otter Creek, Silencerco Omega, Griffin Recce 7, Q Trash Panda, Mack Brothers, Banish 30 Varminter, TBAC, Surefire, IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER!! All those listed are top quality and will serve you well.

I been using and running suppressors all the way back into the 90s from military service, hunting, PRS and long range steel shooting and can say we now have lots of good products to choose from that are EXTREMELY close in performance.

Congrats on your success & the new scope David ! Nice follow up with pics too ! Guys are right about the suppressor !
Pretty sweet I must say. Don’t know if will help where & how you hunt. My main reason was for not disturbing folks when I shoot however I have gotten more multiples using it.

Read a lot about them before I purchased mine. I set up a trust which takes a little longer but family keeps it when I’m dead and gone. Bought trust paperwork off line, filled it out with family and followed steps required.

A suppressor sized for your specific caliber will be the quietest but with that being said I wanted one that will be universal for ALL of my rifles. I don’t want to pay Uncle Sam $200 for a tax stamp for every one I would buy !! This is what I have and I like it.

Good luck in this new year !!

If your handy you might look at Form 1 options. Mine was approved in 22 days. It took all of 2 1/2 hours to drill and clip mine using a slow turning hand drill and the jig sold by the manufacturer. I did the clipping with a Dremel tool and carbide cutter. Very quiet and no effect on accuracy. Mine is all stainless, direct thread, 8 inches long, with 8 cones. Weighs 21 oz. but is built like a tank.

Nice shooting and great video. Like it when they cooperate and show up on schedule

With a 1.5x base mag and a huge FOV on the TS25, what is the minimum distance to get a sharp focus?
That looks like a great candidate for pesting around the shop.

He went straight down, perfect shot and great video!

I have enjoyed the photos you shared of the shack before and have always been impressed.

Just my thoughts but it needs a better name. "The shack" just doesn't seem to do it justice.. maybe we should start a poll and give it a new moniker!

Fine with me. Let the suggestions begin.
