RCBS Rockchucker Set

Lee loaders look like a deal, but I don't know anyone that likes Lee after spending time on other equipment...

... and Lee's warranty sucks!!

Catshooter, the world must be near an end. You are agreeing with me too much.

In all honesty, Lee equipment will load ammunition. However, if I were to catalog all of the defective loading equipment that has come through our shop......the vast majority was Lee. And when approached, the standard Lee response is that they don't warranty normal wear. We also had Lee cut a set of custom dies a few years back. Mainly because they were cheap, and it was a set of dies that would only be used a few times ever. The die would not thread into the press. The threads were correct, but the die body was 100 thou. oversize. It took nearly a year to get our money back, meanwhile Redding made us the same die which functioned perfectly.

For someone that just wants to try loading to see if they like it, then Lee "might" be a cheap way to start... but if someone KNOWS they want to handload, then Lee is the last place to start.

Redding, Forster, RCBS, C-H, Hornady and Dillon are top of the line and their warranty is bullet proof.

Lee says that after two years, they will "repair" your stuff for 50% of retail (list price)... what they don't tell you is that 50% of list price is the standard dealer's price - so all they are doing is repairing your stuff for what they sell new stuff for /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Although I knew I would continue to reload for the remainder of my life. My thoughts were to buy good equipment first. If I really hated it, it would be easier to sell and I would lose less money in the long run taking a hit selling good equipment rather than trying to sell lower line equipment.

Another reason I bought this kit.

Natchez Shooters Supply has these on sale right now but they come with an older version of the Speer Manual. You could look there.

I'm very happy with my Lee Breechlock Challenger kit. I purchased everything I needed to get started including bullets, powder, and an RCBS 505 scale off of Ebay for the total cost of the Rockchucker kit. I'd be interested to see how many reloaders that badmouth Lee products have actually used them. Save your money and go with Lee. It loads very accurate ammo! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I've just started reloading with a secondhand RCBS rock chucker, works well. I bought a 38 spec Lee crimper, but I don't like it as much as the RCBS seater/crimper. I also bought the Lee hand press, pretty handy to have for odd jobs. I like the Lee case trimmers too.

I had a friend who loaded his handguns with the Lee Classic Loaders exclusively. He never had a press or a scale. Just a brass hammer and scoops of powder. Not an ideal situation, but it worked ok for him.

I started off with Lee, (Lee Loader- $10 in 1973) and have lots of Lee dies in various calibers. I think that their thumb operated primer seating tool is the best out there for the buck. I have 3 or 4 of them even. But Lee presses have always been lacking in quality as far as I am concerned. If you have one and like it, fine. I have tried them and dont like them because they just feel a bit flimsy to me. Like I said earlier, I have been using the same Rockchucker for 35 years and it still works as well as the day I bought it. That is good enough for me.

I doubt there are very many reloaders on this forum that dont have a few Lee products.

Went and checked it out but I can get it here at Sportsmans Warehouse for the same price with the latest reloading manual and not pay shipping!

But thanks for the info!
