RCBS Trim Pro is now powered up, modded myself for cheap!

Started in on this about a week ago, and just finished up the final touches. It turned out beyond my wildest dreams! The lever above the trimmer controls the cutter stem, push down and it cuts, let up and the spring retracts it.

The cordless drill rides in a sliding carriage which slides back and forth with the cutter. As a final touch I added a trigger actuater (aka gutter spike) which turns it on only when cutting. Should save a lot of noise and battery life vs running continuously, not to mention wear on the case trimmer in general.

This is a very fast way to trim, faster than the rcbs power unit by far. I rest my left arm on the shell holder lever, and change brass and trim with my right. Very ergonomic, and works like a dream. I'm kinda impressed with myself!

Thanks! Now if I could just figure out how I lost the little pin that holds the case holder lever this morning....I had to cut a 1/4" bolt to use in it's place, dang it!

Nicely done, I love tweaking stuff or making my own when I can. I turned my old Lyman trimmer into a power rig a few months ago. It didn't take the engineering your project did though.

This is a funny story. It's a rcbs decapper stem cut off. I had an old one that was bent on the end by where the expander ball would be. A 10-24 bolt with the head cut off would work the same, I was just using what I had handy.

That's where this started out. First I just wanted to not have to hand crank it. The rcbs adapter kit got pretty bad reviews so I took the crank off and figured out what threads it took. Then I thought how nice it would be to have a handle closer to the trimmer, so I figured out how to make a handle that would both push the cutter and pull it back. Then I thought how nice it would be if the cutter retracted itself and I figured out how to attach the spring. The last steps were making a platform for it all and coming up with a way to activate the trigger.
