Re-Boiling traps after a catch?

Ok, I have not caught a yote yet since 2nd week of Feb, I have had stolen traps and set off traps. Now I have caught a ton of coons and few oppossum. Should I be re-boiling these traps after, to remove there scent?

if you touch the traps at all bare handed i would for sure. but if your careful and there is only coon or possum scent on em (not blood), it shouldnt matter much.

Yes and no...If you are catching coons and just releasing them the traps should be okay, but if you are shooting those coons and the traps get messed up with blood and such I would reboil and wax...Its totally up to you if you think the traps are nasty or not...What do you mean by stolen traps, people takeing them or coyotes? Also coons are notorious for digging traps up...

If you catch a coon, the whole area within the catch circle smells like coon. Not just the trap. Should have no problems setting the same trap back.

Don't worry about touching the trap with your bare hands. I set bare handed when it is warm enough not to wear gloves. You will have more problems by allowing lure to get on your traps or improperly bedding them. Both of those reasons can lead to dug traps.

Also, in my area, some coyotes refuse to enter the catch circle. Always have a fresh set at that location. You really need to have at least two traps at each location anyways. If the spot was good enough for one set, it is good enough for two or three.

If you are worried about the condition of the trap, just take it to the car wash and hose away. When you start seeing some rust then you might consider dye and wax.

The stolen trap thing, was my rebar was pulled out twice and I lost the coyote and my traps. I have since gone to 1/8" cable and rings. Haven't had a problem and don't think they will get the traps free. I do move my traps after I've caught a coon in them for scent, and there not covered in blood, just the scent. I also use latex gloves for any release and reset, rubber boots and scent killer on them. I should be recieving my new Just Mice and Hiawatha products today and I look forward to reseting these this weekend and I like the double trap on a set idea. Thanks and any other input is great. I'll keep it posted on what happens!

Like mentioned above, I do my remakes with the old trap. It smells the same as everything else at the set. If I pull the set and remake somewhere else then the trap is reboiled.
