Reasons to carry your pistol with one in the chamber

One reason why I keep DA revolvers in my car and truck and bedroom.

I do have 9mm that I keep in the top box of my Honda Goldwing, but that's because my wife liked my Ultralite .38 Special better than a .380 so I let her have it.

I always carry with a round in the chamber. A year ago I got my first 1911 and I then realized I enjoyed carrying it. Practice practice practice, I learned to only shoot with my thumb over the safety, sure it's not a guarantee that I will flip off the safety in stress but after a certain amount of practice it's hard to draw the gun without flipping off the safety because part of getting a grip on the gun involves pressing down on the safety.

I have one of the original S&W shields with the thumb saftey that I don't feel as confident about, the safety is small and in a somewhat awkward location that can be difficult to operate with my thumb.

Glock 43 for me for no brain activity trouble free operation. I use to keep one chambered at all times, but with young ones around if it leaves my body the round comes out of the chamber. I couldnt live with a azzident like that.

One of the reasons Springfield XD are some of my favorite carry guns. I always know if there's a round in the chamber weather by sight or feel, I like the trigger and palm safety that way when I reholster I keep my hand off the palm safety in case something gets tangled in the trigger.

If you have to think about taking the safety off you haven't trained enough. Every auto I have has one. No Fast Action/strikers in my armory so it takes the confusion away.

I carried a SIG DA/SA on my SORT/SWAT team but finally swapped to a GLOCK as I disliked the transition. Our daily issue guns for the snuffies were DA only Rugers.

I've heard stories of guys shucking all the live shells out of their deer rifle when they see a big buck and later swearing they actually fired the gun. That's just a dang deer.

If you've ever been shot at... it's an interesting experience. I had a partner with me the night of my on the job shooting. We were ambushed by a guy wielding a 12 gauge shotgun. At the first shot my partner bailed out of the patrol car, ran a full block away from the engagement and began yelling uncontrollably on the radio tying it up so badly that back up officers had to switch channels to coordinate a response. He is no longer in law enforcement.

Do I carry with a hot chamber? You bet your azz!

G17, with one in the tube.

I would rather carry a T-ball bat than an unloaded pistol...Swinging an unloaded pistol is no fun, more reach with a bat.

Some of you forget, one or two attackers may have their hands on you, or have beat you half to death while you are struggling for your pistol.

Glock, one in the chamber and a good holster and lots of range time. I personally don't care for the Springfield xd /xdm because of the grip safety. If you have to go hands on with some one your grip on your gun may be compromised. I don't need the grip safety preventing it from firing. Also dislike anything with a mag safety.

Here's a question for those who watched that video. In one case there's a guy getting his motorcycle stolen and he pulls a pistol on the thief. Pistol doesn't fire for whatever reason and that gives the thief time to pull his own pistol and shoot/kill the robbery victim. I'm not sure if the thief had flashed his pistol or not, but assuming he had NOT shown a weapon and it appeared to be a simple robbery, do you think it would be better to just let him take the bike or better to pull a weapon and fight him? I can see both sides, and certainly it would be different if the thief or attacker was waving a gun around already, just not sure what I'd do if something like that went down.
