rechareable batteries

I did a search on here and really didn't find what I was looking for so I thought I would ask.

I've got a new caller expected to arrive in the next day or so and both the caller and remote each takes four AA batteries. Obviously, I want to get rechargeable batteries, but there is a myriad of different brands and strengths of batteries out there. Since this is my first electronic caller, I was hoping that some of you might share some experiences with specific AA batteries you have used in your callers that have worked well for you. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I use the Eneloop low discharge batteries. There has been quite a bit of discussion on batteries down in the electronic call forum.

Yep, what he said. I got the XXXenelpos and a smart charger.

Never heard of this battery, but it sounds like it is pretty popular. Will check them out. Thanks.

eBay or Amazon is the best source, IME.

He's right but both the regular eneloop is also on the same page. Check out each one until you find the one you are looking for. I almost made the mistake and ordered the wrong one.

Eneloop here also. For a very long time. Usually get 8 AA/4AAA/factory charger in a package for $20-24 at costco.
Newest version a few weeks ago were pastel colors instead of white and stated 1800 vs 1500 charges on the old.

I use sharpie to mark date on each battery to define sets and age.

You can't go wrong with the Sanyo Eneloops. I am currently using Powerex Imedions and really like them. They have a higher mAh rating then the eneloops. I have some newer eneloops also that are rated at 1900 mAh, but the imedions are rated at 2400 mAh. They are a little more expensive, but not by much.

Yep...same ones I have and they work fine and last me three days and nights calling at my cabin. I just got back yesterday and we did a total of 7 rather long setups {at least an hour each} and not to mention it was very cold. They don't hardly show any voltage drop and I will probably hunt another week here at home before I charge them. They are not expensive.

Anyone use the Duracell PreCharged Batteries? AA NiMH.

I use them with a MAHA Powerex MH=801D bettery Charger. I can charge up 8 AA or AAA batteries in a hour or in two hours using the Soft Charge mode. I always use the Soft Charge Mode.

I can also "condition" the batteries and soft charge them back up to like new condition.

I have a lot of the older Energizer AA batteries and they have to be charged up every month or they go bad. I use the Powerex Charger to condition these batteries when they go bad because I forget to charge them up every month. Some times I go for three or four months and forget to charge them. I'm talking about the Energizers now.

The Duracell Precharged are different and don't discharge as fast as the Energizers.

I think that all the Duracells are about 2000 mAh while the Energizers vary from 1850 to about 2500. I have a set of 8 that are 2450 mAH rated.

I've read some reviews about the Powerex MH801D battery charger melting down and almost burning down a house. But I'm thinking that they didn't read the manual that comes with this battery charger. It's not designed to charge up low mAH type batteries at the fast charge rate of 1hr. These lower rated mAH batteries get too hot when they are charged at a higher voltage.

I've always used the soft charge which is a two hour charge time and the batteries get hot to the touch but not so hot that they would burn skin. But a little bit more than luke warm.

I've had this charger for about 5 or 6 years now and all my Energizer Batteries that are 5 years to 6 years old still charge up and work. But if I forget to charge them every month I have to condition them and that can take all day long and well into the next day to get all 8 batteries conditioned.

I think that by conditioning it means that they are charged up slowly then discharged down to almost nothing and then charged back up slowly with a cooling time in between each charge/discharge cycle. Heat is the enemy of batteries. The slower you charge them the cooler they remain during the charge but the longer it takes to charge them.

If I'm in a big hurry and can't soft charge the batteries then I just stick in some regular AA alkaline batteries in my E callers. I keep a bunch of the Lithium Ion type AA just in case I need them when it's really cold outside and the rechargeables are working.
