Recommend a 243

i just got a single shot, i can load it though in about 3 seconds. i used to know a guy with a pump action. i like bolt action the best though

I have a Remington 788 (actually a 6mm Rem) that I've had and liked for years.

I just got a Dtech .243WSSM that absolutely ROCKS.

Either a CZ 550 or a Tikka T3 will get my vote here. Two of the best triggers on a production rifle and will shoot very very well.

I've been looking at them lately, so far I like the rem. vls even if it is 9.5lbs. So much available for the Remingtons...

well i would look @

1) Savage w/ accutrigger
2) Remington 700 SPS
3) Weatherby Vanguard (i have one in 243 and shoot great)
4) Stevens 200 ( i have a 223 and shoot mint)

If your using it for hunting, any Savage with the Accu-Trigger and you'll be very satisfied. I own all different brands from cheap to the extravagent, you can't beat a Savage for out of the box accuracy. Won't win any beauty contests or get oohs and aahs from your buddies, but will probably outshoot anything they're carrying.

If your going to use it for predator hunting, (lots of walking) I would go to a tikka t-3 lite stainless. Clip, hammer forged barrel, 2lb trigger and light as air. I have a .223 in remington's vs configuration and went w/t-3 lite stainless in 22-250 awesome, just had to epoxy the front swival in the syn stock. They are both accurate, the vls in not free floating, but they are accurate. Love clips, I wish remmy would offer they're mountain rifle DM in a 243, cause I'd buy one. Or another Tikka!

What about the 243 wssm's?? seem great from what I've read.. but you know what they say about believing what you read!

The Savage will likely outshoot any of the above mentioned. Plus the Savage will also be the kindest to your pocket book. I describe a Savage like this. It's a tool. It's function over fashion.

I'm picking up a Ruger Frontier Target Grey in .243 today. 35 1/2" inch length and 6 3/4 lbs. Heavy barrel and target trigger hopefully it will shoot well and turn into a good general purpose carry gun. Haven't owned a ruger before and I must say that I have been a little apprehensive considering some of the feedback they receive but it was free (can't get any kinder to your pocketbook than that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif) so we'll see how she shoots hopefully this weekend and I'll report findings.

I own a Tikka T3 Stainless. Keep in mind the Tikka comes with rings also. That's a 30-50 dollar savings depending which route you go.

My only gripe with savage is their bolt. The handle is so big that you have to have high rings to get it to clear the scope. Then when you have gloves on in the winter, you still have to grab the bottom side of the bolt or your hand gets in the way or bangs into the scope if you're in a hurry.

I will say the Ruger's are the easiest to mount a scope to. Their rings are all steel and once installed you'll just need to adjust for elevation. My biggest gripe with Ruger is they don't free float their barrels. Looks like they finally did on the Frontier though. You're going to lose a TON of speed with that short 18" barrel though.
