Recommend a 243

LOL on that Ruger. Just hope you'll never need factory service. Their service is terrible. I use to like Ruger and bought a lot of them, but triigers were all terrible and had to be reworked. I returned a gun to them last April for service. I did not get it back until October. Six months!!!! LOL

What about the 243 wssm's??

Not much gain ballistically and the brass (or loaded cartridges) is much more expensive than the regular .243. I wouldn't have one in a bolt gun.

The one GREAT reason to have a .243 WSSM is if you are putting it in an AR15. The regular .243 is too long to fit the mag, but the WSSM is a near perfect cartridge for it.

I like the 243 i have had three of them but i keep trading them off it always seems somebody else needs them more than i do but i do have my first rugar 243 i have owned several rugar and you can bet they need the barrel floated the trigger reworked and they need to be glass bedded on the plain old m-77 mark 2

i have 243 savage model 16 w/detachable mag. i had a single shot and sold to buy this savage. 1/2 inch grps at 100 yds. savage gaurantees inch or better at 100yds, if not send it back and they will get it there is what they told me! one thing about savage......it may not be the prettiest girl in the safe, but it is damn sure the pretties girl at the range!!!i promise you that!!

good luck with whatever you decide

Tikka also guarantees MOA 3 shoot groups @ 100 yards. Both my CZ and Tikka will easily do this. In bolt action rifles I have owned Savage, Remington, CZ, and Tikka in varmint calibers, The Tikka has the best trigger out of them all unless you are shooting the CZ in the "set mode" and then the CZ is my favorite, but in normal trigger pull the Tikka wins hands down. The Savage accu-trigger is ok but nothing compared to the Tikka's trigger or the CZ's set trigger. The Rugers, Rems, CZ and the Tikka's will most likely hold their resale value much better than a Savage.

The bottom line for me is that if I had $550 to spend on any new bolt action rifle it would be either the CZ or the Tikka. They are the best bang for your buck if you want very nice triggers, high accuracy, good resale value and nice looks.
This is my humble opinion of course.

My main .243 is a Browing BLR and I REALLY like it. Accurate, fast and very stable. Testing a .243 7600 Remington pump action Synthetic stock this year on coyotes and deer for some articles. I've experienced none of the rattling forearm I've read about, the trigger is decent and the rifle is very accurate. I'm really very impressed with it for working calling sets and believe it will be an excellent moderate range caller for timber and thickets. I have a 1.5-5X Weaver Grand Slam mounted on it and it is very quick on target and backup shots. I'll know more when I get into heavy winter calling but it is a heck of a whitetail rifle. It seems faster than Browning but does not lend itself well to shooting off of cross sticks... but I don't use cross sticks for timber and tall grass calling.

Thanks for all the great information everyone. I'll have to start looking around the gun shop and see what follows me home.
