Can these turtles be a threat to fish in a stock tank, place i hunt seems to have a lot, a lot of them, i do know they r omnivores, how much affect can they have on them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

biggest threat they pose are to eating the fish eggs out of a nest. dosnt take very many of them to really do some damage to a population when they can wipe out every nest they find.

I shoot them for a friend of mine that has a fish pond. He has ducks and other birds around and he doesn't want the turtles to eat the babies.

Trapping them is the best option and the one that will work even when you are not there..

An old 55 gallon drum with an innertube around the top works like a charm.. They climb the innertubee and drop over the side only to find that they can't climb the steel of the drum..

I haven't looked lately but the little red eared turtles you are talking about were very good sellers in pet shops for kids that wanted a pet that didn't require a lot of upkeep.. Might check into that aspect once you get to trapping them...... James L.

I'd check the game laws first just so you know what's what. Here in michigan you cant even shoot a frog with a BBgun anymore. All reptiles are off-limits here.

No matter how many of those damn things i shoot with the .223 out of my friends stock pond, they are back in force the next time i show up.

Put one in a fish tank (glass) with some fish (cheap ones) and see what happens. I have. If legal I shoot them when legal, of course.
